Douglas "Rosco" Runyon, 61, of Jesse, WV passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Raleigh General
Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born on March 28, 1955 in Welch, WV a son of the late Edward Lee and Joan
Lambert Runyon. Rosco was a member of the UMWA. He loved his grandchildren, working on cars and the
sheriff's department. Rosco was always ready to help out anyone.  He is preceded in death by his parents .
Survivors include his loving wife Ruby McComas Runyon; a daughter Deanna and Mike Tolliver of Jesse; two

Howard "Fillmore" Dixon, 78, of Clear Fork, WV went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 12,
2015 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born April 29, 1938 in Beeson, WV a son of the late
Howard L. "John" and Josephine Beaver Dixon. Fillmore was a loving husband, father, grandfather and
great grandfather. He was a member of Toneda Missionary Baptist Church, attended the Advent Christian
Church and a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife

Robert Mitchell "Bob" Asbury, 89, of Brenton, WV departed this life  on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at his
home. He was born March 6, 1927 in McDowell County, WV the son of the late Thomas Benton and Mary
Jane Muncy Asbury. He is also preceded in death by his brothers Tommy and Bill Asbury. Bob was a former
teacher at Baileysville High School, a member of the WVEA, Masons, the Royal Arch, Bluefield Commander
and Baileysville Baptist Church. He was a US Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. Those left to

Linda Lou Payne Collings, 76, of Clear Fork, WV passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017
at her home. She was born on February 7, 1941 in Landville, WV a daughter of the late Burb
Payne and Athleen Davis Payne Southard. Linda was a 1959 graduate of Baileysville High
School. She worked at various manufacturing facilities in Indiana, worked for Island Creek
Coal Company in Coal Mountain and worked at Clarice's Flower Shop in Gilbert. She became a
Christian in 1966 and she wrote a play called "Heaven, Hell and the Rapture" in the early 70's
and attended Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church. Her hobbies were painting, sewing,
crafting, gardening, interior decorating and shopping. She is preceded in death by her
parents. Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years Louis A. Collings; her children
Gregory (Debra ) Collings of Franklinton, NC, Tanya (Eddie) Stokes of Clear Fork and Shana

Luke "Roger" Kirkendall, 69, of Pineville, WV starting rejoicing in Heaven on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at his
home. He was born on November 21, 1947 in Clear Fork, WV a son of the late Luther and Grasie Allen
Kirkendall. Luke was a retired coal miner of 28 years. A minister of the gospel for 31 years and enjoyed the
outdoors and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother
Jerry Kirkendall; a daughter Veronica Tonett Kirkendall; and a great granddaughter Amiela Faith Kirkendall.

Jeffrey Scott "Bodine" Blankenship, 43, of Charleston, WV, formerly of Oceana, went home to be with the
Lord on Friday, February 3, 2017. He was born on April 28, 1973 in Man, WV, the son of Larry and Vickie
Aliff Blankenship of Clear Fork. Jeffrey was a former Paramedic in L.E.A.S.A. in Logan County, a mine safety
instructor at Southern WV Community and Technical College in Logan, a volunteer at the Oceana Volunteer
Fire Department for many years and most recently worked for WV DOH in Wyoming County. Jeffrey
"Bodine" never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew and worked with him. Most of all, Jeffrey
loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was always telling others of his love for the Lord. In addition to his parents
survivors include his loving wife Mary Leigh Ellison Blankenship; son Samuel Elias Blankenship; sister Kelly

Gladys Brown, 95, of Cyclone, WV traded her earthly wings for her glorified Heavenly wings and is now
shouting and walking on Streets of Gold on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV
surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 11, 1922 a daughter of the late Calvin Sr. and Bertie
Daniels Blankenship. Gladys was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for sixty-six years,
six months and one day. She was saved by grace on September 13, 1950. This was the birth she
acknowledged with great pride. She loved gardening, canning, cooking, baking, going to church, listening to
gospel music, watching evangelists on her TV, reading her Bible, praying with others and for others and
spending time with her family and friends. She got the most pleasure from talking to others about her Lord.
She was a member of the Cyclone Church of God.  Gladys lived her life to serve The Lord and tried her best
to walk as closely as she could with him. She was well known for her "old fashioned stack cakes" and her
"Direct line to the Lord's ears". Her life has touched many. Her prayers went up without ceasing and her
name traveled places her feet never walked. You couldn't outshout her, couldn't outrun her and you
couldn't scare her, for the Lord was her shield, protector and strength. In addition to her parents she is
preceded in death by her ex-husband, the love of her life and father of her children Arthur Brown; a
daughter Juanita Woolwine; granddaughter Koleena "Corky" Parsons; Five great grandsons Gerald "Little
Jerry" Brown, Jr., Cody Blankenship, Joshua Blankenship, Austin Blankenship and John "Little" John"
Brown; sons-in-law Bill "Buddy" Gibson, James White, Ed Norman Murphy, Randy Woolwine, and Bill
Keeney; brothers Riley (Sue) Blankenship, Freeman Blankenship, Lee (Inez) Blankenship and Dewey (Vi)
Blankenship; sisters Freda (Joe) Cook, Brooke (June) Toler, Lula (Ash) Brown and Ida (Garner) Brown; a
special brother-in-law whom she loved and held near and dear to her heart Arnold Brown; her best friend,
mentor, prayer warrior and pastor she was saved and baptized under Rev. Stollie Parsons; and Juanita Toler
whom she  loved and thought of as a daughter. Gladys is survived by her children Kenneth (Hilda) Brown of
Kopperston, Sue (John) Vigil of Indian Creek, Peggy White of Cyclone and her loving daughter and caretaker
whom she also lived with Betty Murphy of Cyclone; a brother Calvin (Betty) Blankenship, Jr. of Lewis burg;
19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 21 great great grandchildren; and a host of other loving family
and friends. She got the most pleasure from talking to others about her Lord. A celebration of her life will

Nancy May Barber Steffey, 73, of Oceana, WV passed away in Beckley on Friday, March 24, 2017 after a
long illness. She was born on May 14, 1943 in Oceana, she was a daughter of the late Chilton Barber and
Sue Barber Browning. A lifelong resident of Oceana, Nancy was a 1961 graduate of Oceana High School and
was instrumental in planning several reunions for her classmates. A former employee of First Community
Bank in Oceana, she worked several years as a census data collector and also served as a poll clerk for city
and county elections. She was a member of Oceana Church of God. Survivors include her beloved son Barry
(Angie) of Oceana; two precious grandchildren Austin (Hannah) of Oceana and Cassie of Charleston; a
cherished great-granddaughter Brinn; a sister Judy (John) Blackwell of Beckley; two half sisters Pam
(Doug) Shelton of Jumping Branch and Shelia Dancy of Fredericksburg, VA; a special nephew and niece
Scott (Melissa) and Brooke Blackwell of Middletown, OH and Susan Blackwell Gregory  with Chad, Abby

in the arms of Jesus and with her baby of 59 years Leonard who passed away May 11, 2001. She was born on
January 16, 1926 in Guyan, WV a daughter of the late William Myles and Dixie Virginia Paynter Ferguson.  
Lillie is a charter member of the Mill Creek Freewill Baptist Church and the last surviving member of her
family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son Joe Bailey; and a daughter-in-law Nancy

Hope Vernatter Dotson, 41, of Iaeger, WV went to join her mother and loved ones in Heaven on Wednesday,
April 5, 2017 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA after an unexpected illness. She was born
February 14, 1976 in Welch, WV a daughter of the late Freda Vernatter. Hope was a lifelong resident of
McDowell County. She was married to Ricky Dean Dotson for almost 25 years and always referred to him as
the love of her life. She was one of a kind with a heart as big as the moon. She spoke her mind with love and
was always honest and loyal. Hope was as real as it got in a world so hard. She will also be remembered for
her strong WV McDowell county accent that she was proud of. In addition to her mother she is preceded in
death by a very special aunt Juanita Vernatter; Uncle Howard and wife Faye Vernatter; grandparents
Aurthur and Ruby Vernatter; father-in-law Sammy K. Dotson; and special friend Selena Justice. In addition
to her husband survivors include their three children Michael Lee Vernatter and fiancé Tracy Roberts of
Premier; Austin Dean Dotson and fiancé Julie Wade that she also helped raise of Iaeger and the light of her
life a daughter Makiesha Ruby Lagaye Dotson of the home; a special sister whom she helped raise and called
her own Dawn Grace Vernatter and fiancé Randell Robinette of Iaeger; sisters Connie (Harold) Robinette
and Elaine (Jerry) Daugherty all of Iaeger and Michelle Mills of Panther; she was blessed with two
grandsons Connor Vernatter of Premier and Colton Robinette of Iaeger; her special grandbaby girl Gabriella
Rebekah Dotson of Iaeger; nieces Savannah Robinette, Charity and Natasha Blankenship and Kirstin Dotson

Bill H. Blankenship, 82, passed away on April 8, 2017 at home in Ripley, WV. Bill was one of thirteen children
raised by the late Virgil and Ruth Tilley Blankenship. He was born March 22, 1935 in the Sun Hill area of
Wyoming County and could tell many tales of his tough childhood. Bill graduated from Baileysville High
School class 1954, playing all sports. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by brothers:
Onnie Lee, Raymond, and Gene Blankenship and sisters: Florence Blankenship Maynor and Phostenia
Blankenship Belcher. Birth family survivors are brothers Bob, Hershel, and David of Hopewell, VA, Daniel of
Lockport, IL and sisters Mable Blankenship Ridenhour of Villa Park, IL, Frances Blankenship Jonas of
Chicago and Mary Blankenship Jones of Lexington, NC. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years Patty
Short Blankenship, children Terry (Dina) of Lugoff, SC; Keith (Melisa) of Lugoff, SC and Robin (Frank) of
Claytor Lake, VA. Grandchildren are Christopher, Benjamin and Will Blankenship, Morgan and Matthew
Blankenship, and Jason and Gentry Shrewsbury. Great-grandchildren are Mackenzie, Mason and Bradley
Blankenship. After graduation, Bill enlisted in the US Army, becoming a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne
Division. He spent part of his army enlistment stationed in Germany. Laughingly, he would talk about his
poker skills earning him more money than his army pay. His coal-mining career included working at
Kopperston for over 31 years. After retirement he enjoyed and took great pride in his and Patty’s farm in
Gay, WV. His greatest pleasure was being part of his grandchildren’s lives. He was a scrupulously honest

Stafford Family Funeral Home, Oceana, WV. The Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct

Annis Cole Spratt Baker, 92, of Clear Fork, WV passed away on April 9, 2017 suddenly at her home. She was
born on September 30, 1924 in Sun Hill, WV a daughter of the late Epp and Bessie Shannon Cole. She was a
member of the Sun Hill United Methodist Church and the last surviving member of her family. She loved
reading her bible and Christian books.  Annis and her first husband Rhannis Spratt owned and operated a
service station at Sun hill during the 1960's. She moved to Sebastian Florida with her second husband Bob
Baker and lived there several years until his death. She moved back to Clear Fork and was a homemaker and
especially loved working in her yard and flowers. She enjoyed fishing in her younger years and working
outside. Annis loved visiting with her family and friends and watching and feeding the birds. She was a
Mountaineer fan and watched all their games until her health declined.  In addition to her parents she is
preceded in death by her two husband's Rhannis Spratt and Robert Baker; a daughter Marilyn Spratt; step
son Robert Cliff Baker; four sisters Virgie Cole, Ethel Cline, Truby Blankenship and Irene West; three
brothers Masil Cole, Roy Cole and Troy Cole. Survivors include a step daughter-in-law Brenda Baker; two
step grandchildren whom she loved dearly Josh (Jennifer) Baker and Ben Baker; a step great grandchild

Marshall L. Reed, 42, of Hanover, WV departed this life on January 14, 2017 in Logan Regional Medical
Center, due to a bacterial infection and pneumonia. He was born on October 31, 1974 in Logan, WV, a son of

House, Beckley, WV following a long illness. KD was born on September 5, 1939 in Cyclone, WV a son of the
late Arthur Kenneth and Gladys Blankenship Brown. He was a United States Army Veteran, retired coal
miner and avid hunter and fisherman. He loved spending his days in the mountains or on a riverbank. In

Leona Morgan Bishop, 64, of Indian Creek, WV passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Bowers Hospice
House, Beckley, WV after an extremely courageous fight against cancer. She was born on December 6, 1952
in Coal Mountain, WV a daughter of the late Jackie Jean and Thelma Harper Morgan. Leona attended the
Brenton Baptist Church. She owned and operated her own beauty shop for almost 24 years. She loved and
cherished all of her clients dearly. Leona enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson with her husband and friends
more than anything. She was also an avid dirt track fan and Gentry's number one fan. In addition to her
parents she is preceded in death by two infant brothers; sister-in-law Irene Morgan; father-in-law Harless
Bishop; and brother-in-law Eugene Bishop. Survivors include her loving husband of 46 years Alvin Bishop; a

Jack Harding Ritchie, 96, of Oceana, WV passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017. He was born on October 13,
1920 in Princeton, WV a son of the late Charles C. Ritchie, Sr., and Mary Nidiffer Ritchie. Jack grew up in
Bud, WV, and was a 1938 graduate of Herndon High School. He and his wife Novella were the owners and
operators of Jack's Transfer in Oceana. As an agent for United Van Lines, he moved people in and out of
Wyoming County for many years. They owned Ritchie's Furniture from 1956 until their retirement in 1989.
Jack was a well respected, honest businessman, who treated everyone fairly. He was always a true
gentleman. Until his health deteriorated, Jack faithfully attended Crany Missionary Baptist Church. He
helped to establish the Oceana Fire Department and also was instrumental in bringing a bank to Oceana. He
was one of the original directors of the Bank of Oceana and was extremely proud of his fifteen years of
service as a director without missing a single board meeting. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in
death by his wife of 66 years, business partner and true love of his life, Novella Cozort Ritchie; his brothers
Charles C. Ritchie, Jr. and Paul C.  Ritchie, and their wives Dorothy, Marguerite and Pat; his sisters Mary
Terry, Josephine Canterbury Adkins and Rachel Cozort Lamb, and their husbands Walt, Doug, Mason,
Vaughn and Harold; sisters-in-law Grace McGraw and Virginia Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews. He
is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Betty and Fred Halsey; his granddaughter Andrea Fatony and her
husband Dana; and his great grandson Dallas Fatony. He will be sadly missed by his family, his many friends,
especially his good friends Bill and Regina Cook, and his caregivers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM
on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV, with Rev. Raybon Cook

Burns Duane Short, 67, of Brenton, WV passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Beckley VAMC, Beckley,
WV. He was born on December 19, 1949 in Baileysville, WV a son of the late Verlin and Flora Foster Short.
He is a 1967 graduate of Baileysville High School and a United States Army Vietnam Veteran. In addition to
his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Imogene Justus Short; a son Carl Douglas Short; two sisters
Verlene Bradford and Elizabeth Daniels. Survivors include two daughters Lena (Aaron) Younce of Hickory,
NC and Donna White of Brenton; a son Michael (Alegisha) Short of Brenton; a sister Janet Spears of
Matheny; a brother Larry (Dixie) Short of Pineville; seven grandchildren; and a host of other loving family

Glenda Kay Daniels Hatfield, 52, of MacArthur, WV formerly of Cyclone passed away on Saturday, May 13,
2017 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born on July 2, 1964 in Man, WV  the daughter of the
late Dewey and Clara Daniels. Glenda was a 1982 graduate of Oceana High School. In addition to her parents
she is preceded in death by her husband Wirt Hatfield, III; and a brother Donald Daniels. Survivors include
her children Jordan (TJ) Sams of Oceana, Jason Hatfield of Oceana and Joshua Hatfield of the home; a
brother Norman (Edwina) Daniels of Ripley; two sisters Brenda (Tim) Riley of MacArthur and Rhonda

Memorial Hospital, Charleston, WV. She was born on April 3, 1935 in Simon, WV a daughter of the late Wirt
Lee and Margaret Sadie Kennedy Blankenship. Dollie attended the Brenton Baptist Church. In addition to her
parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Jack Collins; two brothers Vennie (Helen)
Blankenship and Benjamin Blankenship; a sister Marie Blankenship; and sister-in-law Linda Blankenship.

Charleston, WV. He was born on October 24, 1968 in Bluefield, WV a son of the late Leansy and Ruby Adkins

Rodney Lee "Lil' Rod" Osborne, Jr., 26, of Lynco, WV went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 16,
2017 following a long illness at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH. He was born on September 18, 1990 in
Logan, WV a son of Yvonne Marie "Heidi" Acord Osborne of Lynco and the late Rodney Lee Osborne, Sr. In
addition to his father he is preceded in death by his grandparents Romie and Sharon Osborne and James and
Helen Acord; uncle Richard Lee Osborne, aunt Patsy "Sissy" Blankenship; great grandmother Lura Osborne;

Donavan James White, 39, of Oceana, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at his
home following a long illness. He was born on January 27, 1978 in Logan, WV a son of Rev. Tommy Wayne
and Pauline Caudill White of Cyclone. Donavan attended the Lynco Pentecostal House of Prayer and  a 1997
graduate of Oceana High School. He loved the simple things of life fishing and playing a game of ball, his
passion was his softball buddies. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Raymond and Mary White and
Alfred and Juanita Caudill. In addition to his parents survivors include his wife of 8 years Catherine May
Smith White; a nephew Malachi "Little Bub" White of Cyclone; sisters Sabrina (Josh) Hatfield of Lynco,
Mary Person of Lundale, Kim (Jimmy) Bias of Accoville and Tammy Browning of Lorado; a brother Jimmy
(Tammy) Arthur of Accoville; Father-in-law  Junior (Alicia) Smith of Harrisonburg, VA;a friends whom was

Richard was a member of the UMWA and attended the Pineville In Jesus Name Church of God. He is

come out. . . " Doris Faith Bailey, 72, of Oceana, WV passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Raleigh
General Hospital, Beckley, WV. She was born on July 21, 1944 in Welch, WV a daughter of the late Bebe
Scarberry and her foster father Clarence Haney.  She was baptized alongside her mother in 1958 and
attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. Doris’ devotion to Jehovah and the Kingdom message
was whole-souled. She never missed an opportunity to let people know about the truth and God’s Word.  
She displayed her love for Jehovah through the way she lived her life and delighted in distributing Bible
based literature and talking with everyone that she met about Jehovah.  Even during her times of severe
illness and long stays in the hospital, she talked to the nurses and doctors about Jehovah. Survivors include
her loving husband of 53 years Marvin Raydell Bailey, Sr.; her children Mary Crosbie, Dell Bailey, Jetha
Wagner, Ben Bailey and James Jonathan Bailey; grandchildren James Crosbie, Jon-Morgan Crosbie, Ben
Bailey, Jr., Dell Bailey, Jr. Garrett Bailey, Maddox Wagner, Cannon Wagner, Alex Keeney, Mazie Keeney,
Owen Keeney and Gabe Keeney; great grandchildren Sawyer Crosbie and Mason Crosbie; a sister Cheryl

Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Welch, WV with her son-in-law Richard
