Roger William Morgan, 70, of Mullensville, WV passed away  on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Welch
Community Hospital, Welch, WV. He was born on August 1, 1945 in Pineville, WV a son of the late
Alexander Preston and Anna Mae Blankenship Morgan. He worked in a foundry for many years. In addition
to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Vida Doris Laxton. Those left to cherish his memory
include his loving sister Priscilla J. Blankenship and her husband Earnie of Indian Creek; a special friend
Ester Asbury of Mullensville; a special cousin Ernie Browning and his wife Judy of Pineville; and a host of

Maybeth Daniels Fraley, 83, of Oceana, WV passed away  on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Bowers
Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born on March 31, 1932 in Williamsport, KY a daughter of the late
Frank and Mahala Preston Daniels. She attended the Crany Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her
parents she is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Fraley; a son Leo Fraley; three sisters; and seven
brothers. Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters Regina (Bill) Cook and Laveda (Eddie)
Beverly; a son Westly (Judy) Fraley; four grandsons Charles (Kristi) Cook, Lesley (Mel) Cook, Chris (Kellie)
Fraley and Bradley (Andrea) Fraley; three granddaughters Tonya (Ed) Fraley Smith, Jerri (James) Vance and
Crystal (Quinton) Randall; seven great granddaughters Chloe Cook, Madison Cook, Gracie Fraley, Julia
Vance, Jamie Vance, Kacie Fraley, Karlie Fraley and Kaylee Massey; five great grandsons Will Cook, Blayne
Cook, Isaac Fraley, Christopher Fraley and Gavin Massey; a brother Norton Daniels; special friends Chad

Eugene New, 78, of Brenton, WV went home to be with Jesus  on Monday, December 7, 2015 at CAMC
General, Charleston, WV. He was born on December 22, 1936 in McCarr, KY a son of the late Everette and
Mannie New. Eugene was attended the Brenton Baptist Church for over 30 years and was a member of the
UMWA. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by four brothers Charley Akers, Walter Akers,
Junior Akers and Payton Akers; and a sister Soffey Lee Evens. Those left to cherish his memories are his
loving wife of 54 years Ina Geraldine Vance New who was the love of his life; a daughter Ina Jean New of
Brenton; a son Herbert J. New of Hanover; two brothers Arland New of FL and Julus Tilley of DE; four
grandchildren Roy (Christy) New of Glover, Johnny L. New of Gloucester, VA, Sarah New of Parkersburg
and Jamie New of Beckley; four great grandchildren Paisley New who was his first great grandchild and the
love of his life, Audrey New, Aiden C. New and Emma Price; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Opal Cleo Breeding Stewart, 98, of Clear Fork, WV departed this world for Heaven on Sunday, December 13,
2015 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was welcomed home by her late husband, Herschel B.
Stewart, who preceded her in death on May 4, 1994. Opal was born the daughter of the late Ephriam and
Goldie Deskins Breeding in Iaeger on September 16, 1917.  A beloved mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Opal was a devoted wife and trusted in Jesus Christ as her
personal savior.  Opal shared her faith with generations, and her memory will be cherished by the countless
many she touched throughout her long life. She was raised on a farm and valued the hard work of tending
crops and raising livestock.  Opal and Herschel raised three sons at their happy home at Cub Creek before
settling in Clear Fork, where she lived until her last days.  Opal shared her love of music with her sons and
grandchildren, leading many to follow in Christian ministry.  Opal attended Clear Fork Valley Baptist
Church.  She made beautiful quilts and enjoyed gardening.  She was well known for growing plump
strawberries, mush melons, and blueberries, which she believed were a key to long life. Opal is preceded in
death by three brothers, Ephriam “Junior,” Johnnie and Hammond Breeding, and five sisters, Rosalie
Breeding, Bessie Mabe, Nina Lusk, Kathleen Barnett and Josephine Workman. Opal is survived by her three
sons, Billy Charles (Nanna Mae) of Baileysville, Herschel Parker (Nicole) of Sierra Vista, AZ and Joseph
(Sharon) Stewart of Clear Fork; ten grandchildren, Tony (Luann), Herschel Richard, Christophe, Allen
(Dana), Russell (Candace) and Devon (Brianna Smith) Stewart, Suzanne Ketron, Tina (Richard) Lockhart,
Misty (Robert) Lyons and Marsha Stewart Kennedy; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-
grandchildren;  a special caregiver Angie Cline; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral

Kathleen Blankenship Hatfield, 79, of Coal Mountain, WV passed away on Tuesday December 15, 2015 at
her home. She was born on June 23, 1936 in Coal Mountain, WV a daughter of the late Bruce and Josie
Acord Blankenship. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Eugene
Hatfield; a granddaughter Beth Morgan; a great granddaughter Autumn Hatfield; three sisters and five
brothers. Kathleen worked for the Wyoming County Board of Education as a cook for many years at Coal
Mountain and Baileysville.  Survivors include two daughters Marsha  (Nick) Wallace of Coal Mountain and
Patty (Steve) Hopkins of Powhatan, VA; three sons Michael (Rebecca) Hatfield of Oceana, Larry (Ronda)
Hatfield of Coal Mountain and Billy Hatfield of Festus, MO; two sisters-in-law Georgia Hatfield of Coal
Mountain and Freda Blankenship of Oceana; 20 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and a host of other

Piper Keegan Walters, left this world to play with the angels in Gods playground, just before she was born

Joseph Albert Goodwin, 77, of Kopperston, WV entered into eternal rest  on Thursday December 17, 2015
in CAMC General Hospital, Charleston, WV surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was born
on February 28, 1938 in Mohawk, WV a son of the late Boots Logan and Orpha Mary Noe Goodwin. Joseph
is a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Ranger Fuel Inc. as an equipment operator. He was a
devoted and dedicated father, grandfather, friend, hunter and race fan. In addition to his parents he is
preceded in death  by his siblings Ella Louise Goodwin, Garnell Sheppard, Garnett Lusk, Calvin Goodwin and
Sidney Goodwin. Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 52 years Betty Jo Goodwin;
sons Terry Joe Goodwin, Sidney (Gina Lawrence) Goodwin all of Oceana, Mitchell (Melody Paugh)
Goodwin of Kopperston and Joseph Goodwin, Jr.; grandchildren Haley Goodwin, Garrett Goodwin, and

son of the late Onnie and Virginia Crouse Workman. Ray was a disabled coal miner and a "union man". He
last worked at Dehue Coal in Logan County as a roof bolter. Ray was a loving husband, father and
grandfather. He loved people, to talk, horses and fast cars. He never got out of the habit of doing a burn out
in his truck before he pulled in his driveway. Ray was a kind-hearted humble man who would do anything for
his family and friends. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son Samuel Lewis Workman;
two sisters Mildred Blankenship and Shirley Adams; and a brother Billy Workman. Those left to cherish his
memory are his loving wife of 51 years Mary Ann Vance Workman; a daughter Gina Marie Sellards and
husband Charlie; a son Eddie Ray Workman and wife Angela; grandchildren Nicole Rae Bailey, Chad Lewis

Michael Wayne "Mike" Belcher, 61, of Oceana, WV went to be with the Lord on Sunday December 27, 2015
surrounded by his wife and loved ones in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born on June 7,
1954 in Mullens, WV a son of Virginia Day Belcher of Oceana who lived with him and the late Ward Belcher.
He was a 1972 graduate of Oceana High School.  Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of
28 years Debbie Maynard Belcher; two sons Brandon Belcher and his loving companion Tabbie of Beckley,
Nicholas Laxton and wife Sara of Oak Hill; his two sons of the heart Johnathan England and wife Courtney
of Oceana and Jeremy England of the home; a granddaughter Harmony England; a sister Melissa Cozort and

Pastor William "Bill" Faulkner, 87, of New Richmond, WV passed away  on Tuesday December 29, 2015 in
Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born on October 3, 1928 in Abs Valley, VA a son of the late
Luther and Laura Webb Faulkner. Bill was a pastor for over 42 years at the Black Eagle Missionary Baptist
Church and the Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He worked from 1949 to 1984 at the Itmann Coal
Company. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife Peggy Lambert Faulkner; a
son Jimmy Dale Faulkner, great grandson Brayden Lester, two sisters Margaret Boothe and Kathy Harper
and a brother Johnny Lambert. He was the last of the Faulkner brothers. Survivors include his two
daughters Bonnie (Carl) Lester of Cabin Creek and Connie (Roger) Lester of New Richmond; two sons
William David (Linda) Faulkner of Princeton and Donald Ray Faulkner of New Richmond; twelve
grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; three sisters Stella (Richard) Hunt of NC, Joyce Sheets of

Lawrence Tilley, 65, of Ravencliff, WV went home to be with Jesus  on Thursday December 31, 2015 at his
home. He was born on December 12, 1950 in Glen Fork, WV a son of Lola Day Tilley of Glen Fork and the
late Harvey "Waymen" Tilley. Lawrence was a 1969 graduate of Glen Rogers High School and a member of
the UMWA. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his mother-in-law Bessie Bailey. In addition

In loving memory of the most precious, beautiful, loving wife, mother and grandmother, Frankie Ellen Morgan.
Frankie was 69 years old and living in Oceana, WV when her perspective changed from bravely staring down
cancer to firmly standing with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in her eternal home. Frankie died, on January 1,
2016 surrounded by her adoring family. She was born on May 20, 1946 in Baileysville, WV a daughter of the late
Pierce and Jesse Thomas Short. Throughout her life she enjoyed time with her family , attending church, reading,
listening to music and combining her love of travel and history. She worked for many years as a teacher for the
Wyoming County Head Start in Kopperston, WV. She is survived by the love of her life, husband Dennie S.
Morgan, Sr., to whom she was devoted  and married to on this journey through life for fifty-years.  Frankie is
survived by two children who she loved unconditionally and completely, Sherri Honaker (Chuck) of Scarbro, West
Virginia and Dennie S. Morgan, Jr. (Annie) of Beckley, West Virginia. Frankie had a very special bond and
relationship with her grandchildren and she loved them with all of her heart.  She is survived by these loving
grandchildren:  Tabetha Soberdash, Travis Honaker, Trista Honaker, Harrison Morgan, Peyton Morgan, Reese
Morgan and Haley Stevers. Frankie was also survived by her best friends, sisters and frequent travel-companions,
Rosalie Staton (Irvin) of Noblesville, Indiana and Patricia Mullins (Bob) of Beckley, West Virginia.  Frankie was
also survived by two brothers, Gaylord Short (Margaret) , and Dr. Franklin “Pete” Short, Jr. (Ledena); and sisters,
Judy Lester and Sandra Whitten.  Frankie was also survived by her brothers-in law , Ronald Morgan (Hazel) and
Greg Morgan.  Frankie had a special aunt, Della Smoot and a special friend Zane of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a
host of other of nieces and nephews and she loved them all.  Frankie was a member of the Oceana First Baptist
Church.  She loved all that attended and pastored to her at this house of worship and considered them her family.  
Frankie always wants them to know that she loves them and, also, wants to thank them for always making her feel
special and loved.  She will rejoice and worship with this family again, in time. Frankie’s wishes were that we all
live life with Jesus in our heart and that any donations, in her name, be made to St. Jude Research Hospital a
charity that she kept close to her heart. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday January 5, 2016 at the

Patsy Osborne Blankenship, 46, of Cyclone, WV passed away  on Wednesday December 30, 2015. She was
born on September 21, 1969 in Man, WV a daughter of the late Rommie and Roberta Sharon Lusk Osborne.

James Michael "Jimmy" Walker, Jr., 47, Kistler, WV formerly of Oceana, passed away on Friday January 1,
2016. He was born on April 28, 1968 in Coshton, OH a son of Helen Irene Dorsey of Oceana and the late
James Michael Walker, Sr. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by a brother Jonthon Miller and
his grandfather James White Walker. In addition to his mother survivors include a sister Joyce Lynn Miller

Peter Dale "Pete" Sprouse, 53, of Clear Fork, WV went to be with our heavenly father on Monday January
4, 2016 after a fatal coal mining accident. He was a coal miner for over 35 years and loved the men he
worked with throughout his coal mining career. He was a hard worker who took pride in his job. Pete loved
motorcycles, four wheelers, parasailing, camping, boating and working. He was a fearless man and was
respected and loved by so many people in his community. He truly lived his life to the fullest and always
put others before himself.  He was born on February  9, 1962 in Columbus, OH a son of the late Arthur and
Sprouse. Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years Rita Lynn Sprouse; two children Tabatha Frazier and
husband Matthew of Beckley and Trinity Sprouse and wife Jenny Hatfield of Oceana; four grandsons
Landon Frazier, Dylan Frazier, Elijah Sprouse and Noah Sprouse; his siblings Linda Lambert, Jim Sprouse,
Debbie Cline, Mary Damron, Danny Sprouse, Randy Sprouse and Sandra Sprouse; his step-father Bert
Carlson; best friend who he loved like a brother Steve Cox; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and

Bobby Arnold Bryant, 48, of Panther, WV passed away on Friday January 8, 2016 in Raleigh General
Hospital, Beckley. He was born on July 12, 1967 in Welch, WV a son of Florence Steele Bryant of Panther and

Gary Dean Roberts, 62, of Wyoming, WV finished his work on Earth and went on to be with the Lord on
Sunday January 10, 2016 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born to the Roberts family on
September 13, 1953 in Isaban, WV. Gary was a 1974 graduate of Glen Rogers High School and worked most
of his life at the Coca Cola Processing Plant in Pineville. He also worked at Goodson's in Oceana. Some of
his friends nicknamed him Louie and some called him Kemo. Gary will be remembered by many as a gentle
kind soul. He was our little buddy who loved his mountaineers. He will be sadly missed by many sisters,
brothers, nieces, nephews and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at

Larry E. Osborne, 70, of Oceana, WV passed away on Wednesday January 13, 2016 at Bowers Hospice
House, Beckley, WV. Born December 3, 1945 at Lorado, Logan County, WV. He was the son of the late
Arnold Osborne and the late Marie and Lawerence Lusk. Larry served in the United State Army from
1968-1970 and was stationed in Korea for twelve months. He worked as a coal miner for over 19 years at
Kopperston #2 Mines and was a member of UMWA District 17 Oceana Local 7604. Larry was an avid hunter
and fisherman. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a granddaughter Chanel; sisters Brenda
Lusk, Eva Vance, Iris Lusk, Elizabeth Lusk, Janice, Juanita and Laurencana; and  a brother Johnny. Survivors
Beckley; grandchildren Lexi, Ayden, Mia and Nolan; sisters Rosalee Green and husband Roger of

Dallas Augusta Maynard, 82, of Jesse, WV passed away on Saturday January 16, 2016 at the Bowers
Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born on June 2, 1933 in Naoma, WV a daughter of the late Alba and
Nello (Dickens) Hendricks. Dallas was a member of the Guyandotte Baptist Church of Jesse. She was a
devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, cross stitching, her daily puzzles, her
flower gardens and above all spending time with her family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in
death by two brothers Eugene and Joe Hendricks; a daughter Edith Lusk; and a grandson Terry Wayne

Johnny Andrew Harman, 66, of Matheny, WV passed away on Monday January 18, 2016 at Bowers Hospice

Johnny was self employed and proudly had his own contracting business, Harman Construction, Inc. He
has left behind many displays of his talent and skill with carpentry. He was a perfectionist and a truly
talented and gifted man who could create beauty with a hammer and nail. His work shall live on even

John Lewis Lafferty, 71, of McGraws, WV passed away on Sunday January 24, 2016 after a long battle with
lung cancer. He was born on February 14, 1944 in Ravencliff, WV a son of Lacy and Agnes Trump Lafferty.
John was a United States Navy Veteran, lifetime member of the VFW and a 1963 graduate of Glen Rogers
High School. He was adored and respected by friends and family. John loved his community, and founded
friends of Milam Creek, a community group dedicated to making our neighborhood a better place. Three
things can be said of John; He loved God, his wife and children, he worked hard, and was a man of his
word. In addition to his parents he is  preceded in death by brothers Roy Lafferty, Lacy M. Lafferty and
sisters Rosa Shumate, Jane Shinn, Marie George and Ruby Stock and son in-law Kevin Stambaugh. He is
survived by his wife Dorothy H. Shumate Lafferty; his daughters Dvon Duncan, Donna (Brian) Burner,
Evelyn Stambaugh; sons Ken (Gail) Duncan, Brett (Shannan) Duncan, and John (Linda) Lafferty II; John
was blessed with thirteen grandchildren Amanda Fulk, Beth Duncan, Roy Duncan, Tiffany Duncan, Destiny
Massey, Chelsea Duncan, Joshua Fullam, Jordan Fullam, Jared Fullam, Hannah Stambaugh, Andrew
Stambaugh, Blayne Hill and Julia Lafferty; he also had ten great grandchildren; brothers Ira Lafferty and

William Wyatt Baker, Jr., 78, of Saulsville, WV died on Wednesday January 27, 2016 at Bowers Hospice

and Kathryn Mitchell Baker. William was a longtime minister of Jehovah's Witnesses. After spending their
younger years in their home state of DE they retired and moved to WV where they lived for the last 26

Charles Edward "Shag" Robinette, 66, of Princeton, WV formerly of Iaeger, WV passed away on Sunday,
February 7, 2016 after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born on December 20, 1949 in Milebranch
located in Avondale, WV a son of the late Alfred Thomas and Mary Flossie Estep Robinette. He was a
retired coal truck driver. He had driven many trucks in his life including coal, rock, cement and produce, he
was indeed a lifelong trucker.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Randy
Darnell Robinette. He leaves behind many friends and family including a daughter Djuna (Dennis) Justice

Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, WV. She was born on February 16, 1937, in Logan County, WV, a
daughter of the late Joe and Madelyn Denofrio Secreto. Frances was an excellent mother, grandmother,
worker and everyone's friend. She opened her heart to everyone and loved to cook and sew. She was a
loving mother and devoted her life to raising her children. She was the strength and backbone of her

Mary Bernadine "Bunny" Harold, 89, of Brenton, WV passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at
McDowell Nursing and Rehab, Gary, WV. She was born on October 26, 1926 in Bolair, WV  a daughter of the
late Maynard Lynch and Lena Baker Lynch Leggett. Mary was a member of the Brenton Baptist Church, a
loving mother, grandmother and was the last surviving family member. In addition to her parents she is
preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years Darrell B. Harold; her father who raised her Rev. Wills
B. Leggett; two sons Buel "Red" Harold and Dale Roger Harold.  Survivors include a daughter Patricia

Jimmie Ralph Harvey, 75, of Greenville, TN passed away on March 30, 2016 in Greenville, TN. He was born
May 25, 1940 in Cyclone, WV a son of the late Rev. Kenna and Opal Leland Lusk Harvey. Jimmie was a
retired truck driver for Wal-Mart and attended to Faithful View Church in Greenville, TN. He was a US
Army Veteran. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Vonda Opal Harvey, a sister Edna
Turner and two brothers Jerry and Allen Harvey. survivors include a daughter Kathy Harvey and David

Dianna Darlene Morgan, 62, of Elgin, SC went home to be with the lord Saturday April 2, 2016 after a short
illness. Born  Aug. 16, 1953 at Grace Hospital in Welch WV. She was the daughter of Hilda Mae Davis
Morgan and the late Herbert “Hoover” Morgan. She was a graduate of Oceana High School class of 1971. A
director of the Peterson Presbyterian Day Care Center in Elgin four years and was an employee of Food
Lion five years. She was preceded in death by her dad Herbert “Hoover” Morgan, a brother Barry K
Morgan, a brother-in-law Dwight Trent a brother-in-law Satish “Sam” Salatri; a brother-in-law James
“Pug” Eslwick; and a sister-in-law Pam Morgan. Survivors include daughter Nicole Nicandro (husband)
Rodney a grandson Nathaniel “Nate” and a granddaughter Riley all of Columbia SC. Son Anthony “Tony”
Foltz (wife) Sherry two grandson’s Anthony “TJ” and Dylan of Oceana. Her mother Hilda Morgan of Clear

April 5, 2016. She was born on December 5, 1968 in Beckley, WV a daughter of William Lee and Sharon
Lynn Frazier Pennington of Sabine, WV. She was a 1986 graduate of Glen Rogers High School. She was a
member of the Upper Laurel Fire Department and attended the Glen Fork Church of God. She is preceded
in death by  two brothers Danny and Edward Pennington; grandparents Hubert and Hydrith Frazier and
Bill and Lissie Pennington. In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband Darren Wayne

Adkins Acord. He was a faithful Christian, having served as a deacon and taught Sunday School for over 20
years. He was a retired Senior Master Sgt. with 30 years in the US Air Force and he retired from Harris Mine

lovingly cared for by her grandson Alan Neely. Born June 18, 1925 in Jumping Branch, WV, a daughter of
the late Glen and Edna Cole Cochran. Virginia was a homemaker, owner of Virginia's Fabric and was a
member of Corinne First Church of God. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her
husband Calvin Graham Tilley; a sister Glenna Lemons and husband Connie; a brother Buel "Boone"
Cochran and Wife Beulah "Boots"; great granddaughters Carson Elizabeth Patton and Mackenzie Erin

Johnny Mack Toler, 69, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at CMC Carolina
Medical, Concord, NC. He was born on February 14, 1947 in Cyclone, WV a son of the late Homer G. "Jud"
and Margaret McComas Toler. John was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam
era. He then worked for many years for McJunkin Corporation in both Charleston and Marietta, OH. John
retired and worked in construction so he would not be bored. He had two favorite things to do fish and
watch football. He moved to Charlotte, NC when his first grandchild was born and loved being called
papaw John by all five of his grandkids Madison Ann, Mason James, Tatum Jolee, Carly Rae and Faith
Marie. John was a 1964 graduate of Oceana High School, attended Beckley College and a member of
Lacoma Baptist Church. He is survived by three sons James P. (Missy) Toler of Charlotte, NC, John C.
(Lynette) Toler of Charleston, SC and Matthew A. (Shawnacy) Toler of Lancaster, OH; a daughter
Amanda J. Toler of Ashland, KY;  a brother Homer G. (Becky) Toler of South Charleston; three sisters

Charles Raymond "Charlie" Blessard, 69, of Fairmont, WV formerly of Oceana, passed away peacefully on
April 15, 2016 at his home. He was born on October 25, 1946 in Welch, WV, a son of the late Bob and Edna
Speaks.  Charlie proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a chaplain’s assistant and a
helicopter gunner. He was a member of Wyoming-McDowell DAV Chapter 56, VFW and the Wyoming
County Veterans Honor Guard. He worked as a coal miner and owned a Barber shop serving the Oceana
community for nearly 30 years. He had a love for most any sport and enjoyed playing softball in his
younger days. In his later years he enjoyed traveling the country with his wife Nancy and seeing the sites.
He was survived by his spouse Nancy Ramsey-Blessard; two daughters  Shae (Fred) Morales, and Martha
"Marty" (Shawn) Beverly; son Charles Robert "Bobby" Blessard; step-children Charlie (spouse Valerie),
Shane and Cindy Davis; Eleven grandchildren, Kara, Jessica, Tiffany, Brittney, Nikki, Lezlie, Shane, Whitney,
Austin, Lydia and Ryan; five great-grandchildren; two sisters Pamela Brogan and Karen Speaks. Funeral

On Sunday morning, April 17, 2016, Elmer Goodman, 66, departed this life at Raleigh General Hospital. Born
on September 22, 1949, he was the son of the late Mike and Elsie Goodman. In addition to his parents he is
preceded in death by his 16 year old baby girl Megan; brothers James, Ralph and Benny; and mother-in-law
Babe Toler. A retired coal miner and barber, Elmer had served on the Oceana City Council and served his
country in Vietnam. With a great fondness of gardening and fishing; and making new friends when he sold
apples, Elmer enjoyed watching the WV Mountaineer games. Left to cherish 27 years of everlasting and
precious memories shared with Elmer is his loving wife Rita Toler Goodman, who was his constant and
devoted companion. Also survived by daughter Ashley Shannon Goodman and grandchildren Harlow
Osborne and Ledger Bailey; three biological children Larry Goodman, Michael and Altar Sheppard;  brother
Johnny (wife Rita); two sisters Mary Bishop Acord (Husband Bob) and Betsy Bailey; father-in-law Ray Toler;
two brothers-in-law Rayvon Toler (Wife Betty) and Stacy Toler; several nephews and nieces; his little buddy
Cameron Morgan; and so many friends made over the years. Per Elmer's wishes there will be no visitation.

House. She was born on September 22, 1959 in Welch, WV, the daughter of the late Ronnie Lee and Lola
Claire Lusk Brown. She was a member of the Christian Fellowship Center in Pineville and a loving wife,

Hazel Hawks, 84, of Pineville, WV went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. She was
born on October 3, 1931 in Brenton, WV a daughter of the late Curtis Henry and Bertie Vay "Babe"
Dameron Hawks. Hazel was a member of the Pineville Church of God. In addition to her parents she is
preceded in death by a great niece Kayla Nicole Hawks. Hazel never met a stranger and loved everyone.  
Survivors include a sister Phyllis (Neil) Blankenship of Pineville with whom she made her home; a brother
Harold (Nancy) Hawks of Brenton; nieces and nephews Larry (Kim) Blankenship, Belinda (Tim) Stewart,

Hospital, Charlottesville, VA. He was born on November 4, 1947 in Welch, WV a son of the late Oley
Wallace and Vida Gaye Bailey Hurley. John was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the
Disabled American Veterans and the Wyoming County Honor Guard. In addition to his parents he is
preceded in death by his wife of 26 years Doris Jean Altizer Hurley. Survivors include two brothers Donald
(Shelia) Hurley of Mt. Hope and Alexander Lee (Joan) Hurley of Springfield, OH; and a host of other

Rev. Larry Dean Preece, 64, of Lynco, WV  went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 12, 2016 after a
sudden illness. He was born on September 22, 1951 in Logan, WV a son of the late Virgil Jasper and Marie
Miles Preece. Larry was a member of the Christian Fellowship Center in Pineville and the UMWA Local
1713. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Jack Preece; and grandmother Blanchie
Miles. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years Lawona S. Proffitt Preece; two sons Ricky Dean (Janice)

in April of 2013 and attended the Cyclone Missionary Baptist Church and worked for Robinson Phillips Coal
Company for over 29 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, coon hunting, camping,  and playing
