Belvia Lovins Meade, 61, of Oceana, WV passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at her home. She was
born September 7, 1954 a daughter of Ruth Prichard Lovins of Pineville and the late Willard Lovins. Belvia
was a 1972 graduate of OHS. In addition to her father she is preceded in death by a son John D. Meade; two
brothers David and Roy Lovins; and  a sister Betty Keene. In addition to her mother she is survived  by  her
husband Jerry Meade; three children Moses (Schurla) Meade, Melissa Meade and fiance' Greg Dean and
Jerry L. Meade; grandchildren Kristen (Adam) Burks, Jacob (Wendy) Meade, Genevieve Meade, Sadie Grace
Dean, Bethany and Breanna Evans, and Brandon Adkins; great grandchildren Tegan and Anabel Burks,
Braelyn Garcia and Xander Ward; siblings Gay Osborne, Thelma (Roger) Frazier, Nadine Laxton, Carolyn
Shumate, Sheryl Fritz, Brad (Belinda) Lovins, Jimmy (Linda) Lovins, and Willard Andrew Lovins; and a host

Inez Elswick Blankenship. Johnny was a member of the UMWA and the Rhema Ministries. In addition to his

Juanita Vernatter, 71, of Bull Creek, WV went to be with Jesus and the Angels on Friday, June 17, 2016 after
a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Author and Ruby Cline Vernatter. She was born November 6,
1944 and made her home on Bull Creek her whole life. She was also preceded in death by a brother Howard
Vernatter and his wife Faye and their son Timothy and a sister Freda Vernatter that she loved dearly. Left to

born on October 3, 1931 in Brenton, WV a daughter of the late Curtis Henry and Bertie Vay "Babe"
Dameron Hawks. Hazel was a member of the Pineville Church of God. In addition to her parents she is
preceded in death by a great niece Kayla Nicole Hawks. Hazel never met a stranger and loved everyone.

Kathleen Cole Morgan, 80, of Sunhill, WV passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 surrounded by her loving
family with her husband holding her hand at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born on April 17,
1936 in Sunhill, WV a daughter  of the late Roy and Sadie Cline Cole. Kathleen was of the Methodist Faith
and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a Christian all of her life and made God
the center of it, and an excellent guide in answering questions about the scriptures. . Her most prized
possessions in life were her husband, children and her bible. Younger she always dreamed of having a job
but gladly gave that up to take care of her children and this gave her the most satisfaction and gratification
that she could have received. Kathleen was an accomplished seamstress beginning in her young days
making her daughter dresses out of flour sacks and became good enough to make clothes for her teenage
daughters, herself and many others. She was also an accomplished baker who made the best chocolate pies
and peanut butter fudge around along with other pastries.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in
death by a sister Carolyn Brown; and a daughter Sandra Morgan; a son Clifton Morgan; and grandson Jason
Lusk. Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years Chester Morgan; a daughter Anita Yvonne Morgan of
Oceana; a son Timothy Chester Morgan of Beckley; three grandchildren Cindy (JR) Cook, Amy Lusk and
Bobby Lusk; five great grandchildren Taylor Williams, Justin Prichard, Katie Cook, Jamie Cook and Madison

League for over 50 years, the Midget League and Wyoming East High School. His top priority in life was his

and granddaughter Allyson Ball. Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years Sharon Gayle Wilson Simmons;

Bobby Ray Belcher, 74, of Oceana, WV went to be with his Heavenly Father on Father's Day, June 19, 2016
at Bowers Hospice House. Born on March 9, 1942 in Elk Lick, WV a son of the late Bernard and Merlie
Moore Belcher. Bobby was a member of Oceana Freewill Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and was
a Baileysville High School graduate. He was a retired manager of Lynco Company Store where he met his
wife of 40 years.  Bobby enjoyed spending time with his family and his pride and joy, his great
grandchildren. He also loved his little buddy, his cat Lucky. In addition to his parents he is preceded in
death by his sons Kevin Belcher and Terry Combs; granddaughter Amy Combs; and brothers Jackie, Gene
and Alfred Belcher. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Virgie Day Belcher; daughter Cathy
(Timmy) Harless of Cyclone; grandchildren Tara (Dale) Boothe of McGraws, Jared (Sara) Harless of
Oceana, and Matthew Combs of Oceana, great grandchildren Brooklynn and Jacob Toler, Chloe and Jenna
Harless, and Tyler Cameron; sister Betty Ann Cline of Lynco; and a host of other loving family and friends.

John K. Hurley, 68, of Oceana, WV  passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in the University of Virginia
Hospital, Charlottesville, VA. He was born on November 4, 1947 in Welch, WV a son of the late Oley
Wallace and Vida Gaye Bailey Hurley. John was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the
Disabled American Veterans and the Wyoming County Honor Guard. In addition to his parents he is
preceded in death by his wife of 26 years Doris Jean Altizer Hurley. Survivors include two brothers Donald
(Shelia) Hurley of Mt. Hope and Alexander Lee (Joan) Hurley of Springfield, OH; and a host of other
loving family and friends. In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated. Graveside services  will be held
at a later date and he will be laid to rest in Beaver Cemetery.  The Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard

Jason Ray Newcomb, 36, of Fanrock, WV passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016. He was born on
August 12, 1980 in Welch, WV a son of Vernon Lynn "Buckeye" Newcomb of Fanrock and the late Linda Sue
Fite Newcomb. In addition to his mother he is preceded in death by grandparents John Vernon and Della

On Sunday morning, April 17, 2016, Elmer Goodman, 66, departed this life at Raleigh General Hospital. Born
on September 22, 1949, he was the son of the late Mike and Elsie Goodman. In addition to his parents he is
preceded in death by his 16 year old baby girl Megan; brothers James, Ralph and Benny; and mother-in-law
Babe Toler. A retired coal miner and barber, Elmer had served on the Oceana City Council and served his
country in Vietnam. With a great fondness of gardening and fishing; and making new friends when he sold
apples, Elmer enjoyed watching the WV Mountaineer games. Left to cherish 27 years of everlasting and
precious memories shared with Elmer is his loving wife Rita Toler Goodman, who was his constant and
devoted companion. Also survived by daughter Ashley Shannon Goodman and grandchildren Harlow
Osborne and Ledger Bailey; three biological children Larry Goodman, Michael and Altar Sheppard;  brother
Johnny (wife Rita); two sisters Mary Bishop Acord (Husband Bob) and Betsy Bailey; father-in-law Ray Toler;
two brothers-in-law Rayvon Toler (Wife Betty) and Stacy Toler; several nephews and nieces; his little buddy
Cameron Morgan; and so many friends made over the years. Per Elmer's wishes there will be no visitation.

Charles Raymond "Charlie" Blessard, 69, of Fairmont, WV formerly of Oceana, passed away peacefully on
April 15, 2016 at his home. He was born on October 25, 1946 in Welch, WV, a son of the late Bob and Edna
Speaks.  Charlie proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a chaplain’s assistant and a
helicopter gunner. He was a member of Wyoming-McDowell DAV Chapter 56, VFW and the Wyoming
County Veterans Honor Guard. He worked as a coal miner and owned a Barber shop serving the Oceana
community for nearly 30 years. He had a love for most any sport and enjoyed playing softball in his
younger days. In his later years he enjoyed traveling the country with his wife Nancy and seeing the sites.
He was survived by his spouse Nancy Ramsey-Blessard; two daughters  Shae (Fred) Morales, and Martha
"Marty" (Shawn) Beverly; son Charles Robert "Bobby" Blessard; step-children Charlie (spouse Valerie),
Shane and Cindy Davis; Eleven grandchildren, Kara, Jessica, Tiffany, Brittney, Nikki, Lezlie, Shane, Whitney,
Austin, Lydia and Ryan; five great-grandchildren; two sisters Pamela Brogan and Karen Speaks. Funeral

sudden illness. He was born on September 22, 1951 in Logan, WV a son of the late Virgil Jasper and Marie
Miles Preece. Larry was a member of the Christian Fellowship Center in Pineville and the UMWA Local

Michael L. Parsons, 37, of Cyclone, WV was taken tragically from this earth to soon at his home on
Thursday, July 28, 2016.  He was born on June 14, 1979 in Beckley, WV a son of Janet Riffe Parsons and  
William "PeeWee" and Debbie Parsons all of Oceana. Mike loved coaching baseball and fishing. He served
on the Oceana Little League B.O.D, previously served as  a volunteer firefighter for Oceana and Cyclone, EMT
and truck driver during his short life here on Earth. His heart was always full of love for everyone. He is
preceded in death by his stepfather Charles Maynard; maternal grandparents Bishop J.L. and Addie Paynter
Riffe and paternal grandparents Virgil and Rita Parsons. In addition to his parents those left to cherish his

Delores "Dee Dee" Cook, 57, of Kopperston, WV went home to be With the Lord on Sunday, August 28,
2016 at her home. She was born February 17, 1959 in Lakewood, OH, a daughter of the late Douglas Gordon
and Shelby Chapman Kinser. She was a former Registered Nurse at Heartland of Beckley and a home health
care provider. Dee Dee enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and attending church at the
Family Praise and Worship Center, Oceana. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jerome "Jay"
Cook, mother-in-law Nellie Cook Toler, and a niece Andrea Faith Kinser. Those left to cherish her memory
includes three sons Christopher Cook and fiancé` Jennifer Nail of Marlington, Benjamin Cook and wife
Jessica and Ethan Cook all of Kopperston; two grandchildren Hendrix and Bentlee Cook of Kopperston; two

Ruby L. Workman, 46, of Bim, formerly of Wayne County, WV  passed away on May 12, 2016 at her home.
She was born on August 16, 1969 the daughter of the late Charles Ray and Brenda L. Tomblin. Ruby was a
loving mother and wife. Survivors include her husband of 27 years Randy L. Workman; a son Randy L.

Johnny Mack Toler, 69, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at CMC Carolina
Medical, Concord, NC. He was born on February 14, 1947 in Cyclone, WV a son of the late Homer G. "Jud"
and Margaret McComas Toler. John was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam
era. He then worked for many years for McJunkin Corporation in both Charleston and Marietta, OH. John
retired and worked in construction so he would not be bored. He had two favorite things to do fish and
watch football. He moved to Charlotte, NC when his first grandchild was born and loved being called
papaw John by all five of his grandkids Madison Ann, Mason James, Tatum Jolee, Carly Rae and Faith
Marie. John was a 1964 graduate of Oceana High School, attended Beckley College and a member of
Lacoma Baptist Church. He is survived by three sons James P. (Missy) Toler of Charlotte, NC, John C.
(Lynette) Toler of Charleston, SC and Matthew A. (Shawnacy) Toler of Lancaster, OH; a daughter
Amanda J. Toler of Ashland, KY;  a brother Homer G. (Becky) Toler of South Charleston; three sisters
Connie Long of St. Albans, Margie J. Toler of Sutton and Dolly J. Toler; a host of nieces, nephews and

Charles Stapleton, 96, of Matheny, WV went home to Heaven on Thursday September 1, 2016 at his home.
He was born March 15, 1920 in War Eagle, WV a son of the late Ed and Matilda Griffith Stapleton. He was a
retired coal miner having worked many years for Eastern Associated Coal's Harris Mine and a member of
the UMWA. Charles was of the Pentecostal Faith and a US Army WW II Veteran. While fighting in Europe
and Africa, he earned the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in battle. In addition to his parents he was
preceded in death by two sisters Belle and Minnie and a brother Emory, he was the last surviving member
of his immediate family. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 71 years Hazel Salyers Stapleton;
two sons Doug and Shelby Stapleton and Darrell and Magel Stapleton all of Matheny; five grandchildren
and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a special friend Dorothy Brooks and a host

On Thursday July 21st Wilma Gay Brooks, 68 of Fanrock passed away peacefully with her family by her side
after a courageous battle with liver disease. She was born in Mullens on October 30th, 1947. She was the
daughter of James Perry Brooks and Lila Mae Kennedy who both preceded her in death. She was a retired
school bus driver for Wyoming County Schools after 32 years of faithful service earning perfect or faithful
attendance every year. She loved animals and enjoyed watching her grandson participate in high school
basketball and could often be found bragging on his and her children's accomplishments. She also enjoyed
taking care of her home, both inside and out and loved decorating her home with candles and angels. A
loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her son Darrell Hatfield and his wife Lori of Orange,
Virginia, her daughter Vanessa Adkins of Fanrock along with her grandson Christopher Adkins also of
Fanrock. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a very special sister-in-law Adelene Adams.

director of the Peterson Presbyterian Day Care Center in Elgin four years and was an employee of Food

Jack Acord, 83, of Cyclone, WV passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at his home. He was born on
February 25, 1933 in Bolt, WV a son of the late Lacy James and Flossie Acord. Jack was saved and baptized
in April of 2013 and attended the Cyclone Missionary Baptist Church and worked for Robinson Phillips Coal
Company for over 29 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, coon hunting, camping,  and playing

the late Glen and Edna Cole Cochran. Virginia was a homemaker, owner of Virginia's Fabric and was a

Beckley Veterans Administration Medical Center.  He was born on August 28, 1932 in Akron,

Charlie Eugene Acord, 85, of Glen Fork, WV passed on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in Raleigh General Hospital
after a short illness. He was born December 15, 1930 in Glen Fork, WV, a son of the late Walter and Thelma
Adkins Acord. He was a faithful Christian, having served as a deacon and taught Sunday School for over 20
years. He was a retired Senior Master Sgt. with 30 years in the US Air Force and he retired from Harris Mine
after 13 years. In addition to his parents three brothers preceded him in death Robert Harold, David Earl
and Roger C. Acord. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Gwendolyn Sue Acord; two step sons

Gordon Workman, 78, of Cyclone, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at
Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, WV following a short illness.  He was born on January 14, 1938 in
Lorado, WV a son of the late Frank and Nancy Huffman Workman. He is a member of the Bright Prospect
Missionary Baptist Church. He worked at Lugar Lumber for over 12 years and Harris #1 mines for 20 years.
Gordon most enjoyed his time spending it with his family and friends being outside and taking walks. In
addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son Michael J. Workman; four brothers Donald, Ernest,
Glen and Patrick Workman; four sisters Betty Gullett, Helen Walker, Mary Ernest and Dolly Osborne. Those

Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA following a short illness. He was born on February 3, 1960 in Wyoming
County a son of the Magadlene Bailey Watts of Cyclone and the late Harvey Watts. Jackie was a member of
the Cyclone Church of God but went to Neloa Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family and
friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and horses. In addition to his father he is preceded in
death by  a son Jackie "Hobe" Watts; a brother Jimmy Watts; grandparents Ada and Jay Bailey and French
and Emmazetta Scott Watts; and a niece Tina Watts. In addition to his mother those left to cherish his

enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed horseback riding, camping,
fishing, sewing, gardening, her flower garden and singing and playing the guitar with her brothers and
sisters. Mary attended the House of Refuge and New Hope Church of Indian Creek. In addition to her
