her battle with leukemia on Saturday July 24, 2010.
She was born June 10, 1991 in Dalton, Georgia,
she is the daughter of Melitte Osborne Bentley of
Oceana, WV and David Bentley of Kentucky.
Chanel was preceded in death by her paternal
grandparents Esta and Daniel Bentley, maternal
great grandfather Willard Lovins, great grandmother
Marie Lusk, and great great grandparents Gracie
and Boyd Prichard. Those left to cherish her
memories are her parents, her baby boy Ayden
Blake, sister Alexis, brother Joshua, aunt Cindy and
uncle Rob, cousin Mia, grandparents Gay Gay and
Papaw (Larry), great grandmother Ruth Lovins,
great grandfather Lawrence Lusk. She also leaves
behind her best buddy and cousin Ashley Lovins,

Martha H. Paynter, 92, of Matheny, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday July
22, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She has been A Faithful and Humble child of
God. She was born September 20, 1917 at Campus, WV. Waiting to greet her and rejoice
with her now that her Long Journey into Heaven is over and she has At Long Last has

Arnold Millard Paynter whom she married  May 07, 1934, he passed on to heaven to await
her arrival on  Mar 23, 1994, also were her parents; James Nelson Paynter and Verlena
"Lena" Burgess Paynter (She was their last living child); 19 brothers and sisters; four sons
Millard Devon Paynter 1938-1995, Raymond Jesse Paynter 1940-1958, Lonnie Clay
Paynter, 1956-1969, and Freddie Laverne Paynter 1950-1978; a granddaughter Tera
Mischele  Paynter  1973-2004; two son-in-laws -Thaddeus Bailey and Kelis Weese. She
was a member of Campus Church of God for 80 years, she accepted the Lord as her savior
at the age of 13. She enjoyed Quilting and Crocheting while listening to her favorite Gospel
Music. She is survived by; four daughters and six sons Lilly Lillian Weese of White Sulpher
Springs, WV, Phyllis (Joe) Matney, Of Detroit ,MI, Benjamin Thomas (Nancy) Paynter  of

Debbie Carol Mendez, 51, of Lynco, WV departed this life on Wednesday July 21, 2010
in Select Specialty Hospital, Charleston, WV. She was born October 10, 1958 in Man, WV
a daughter of the late Sotero Granaudo and Myrtle Tiller Mendez. Debbie was of the
Baptist faith, a former waitress and a loving mother, grandma and special aunt. Three
brothers French (Frank), Donald and Columbus (Teddy) Thomas also preceded her in
death along with two infant sisters Martha and Bertha Thomas.  Debbie was a true friend
to many, always making time for her family and friends. Survivors include her loving

MI and Christopher Mendez of Flint, MI; three grandchildren Devin Mendez, Megan

Oren Thomas “Bob” Griffith, 69, of Basin, WV, went to his heavenly home on Monday
July 12, 2010 at his home after a sudden illness. He was born on February 1, 1941 in
Mullens, WV a son of the late Joe and Ethel “Shrewsbury” Griffith. He was a lifelong
resident of Basin and a retired coal miner. His two brothers Okey Griffith of Stephenson,
WV and Jim Griffith of Basin, WV also preceded him in death, along with two brother-in-law
Arthur Graham and Okey Bower. Survivors left to cherish his memory include three sisters
Patricia Graham of Basin, WV, Betty Tyree and husband Ernest of Richmond, VA and

Audrey Ruth “Breeden” Sturgill, 79, of Clear Fork, WV, passed away on Sunday July
11, 2010 after a long and very hard, courageous battle against kidney disease. She was
born September 29, 1930 in Pea Patch, Virginia, she was one of eleven children of the late
Lewis Bailey and Lilly Cole Hagerman.  She was the last surviving sibling of her family.
Her sisters were Greedis Hagerman, Ruby Bessie Christian, Virginia Brown, Beulah
Cantrell, Delores Long and a step-sister Molly Wilhite, brothers were Grevil, Norman ”Ed”,
Arvil Robert “Joe Bill”, and Harlen “Buck” Hagerman. Audrey was a loving wife to her late
husband, John Sturgill, and a devoted and loving mother to her only child Jackie. She also
adopted and raised a girl, Patricia Joe of St. Augustine, FL. She was a nurturing
grandmother, a great-grandmother, aunt and a friend to many. She was a member of the
Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church at Man, WV, has been a resident of Wyoming
County for the past 54 years and lived at Crouches Farm since 1976. Audrey was very
supportive and active in her community, she was very giving of herself to help others that
were in need. In 1989 she won a beauty pageant and was Ms C-92 of Wyoming County for
several years. In 1994 she became Wyoming Counties Queen of Queens, she worked
very hard to represent our county. Audrey would visit the Wyoming Continuous Care
Center every Sunday, she loved visiting and talking to the sick and elderly. Also she
visited the Beckley Veterans Hospital. She was in numerous parades throughout southern
West Virginia and Virginia. She particularly liked to volunteer and give her time and talent
to help numerous VFW Chapters.  Thru her life, she worked several years outside of her
home, but most of her time was spent as a homemaker. She is survived by one son Jackie
Breeden and his wife Barbara of Clear Fork; a daughter Patricia Joe Smith of St.
Augustine, FL; three grandsons Jackie Ray Breeden, Jr. and his fiancé Gail Hiott of
Statesville, NC, Chris Lester and Shane Lester both of Oceana; a great grandson Preston
Breeden of Pineville; and a host of other loving family and friends. Jackie deeply
appreciates and thanks ARH Home Health Service of Man, WV and STAT Ambulance
Service of Pineville for the love and compassion that they showed his mother, along with
the Bowers Hospice House staff for their love and caring in her four days there. A

Stevenson Ray “Steve” Blankenship, 66, of Lynco, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday
July 1, 2010 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. Steve was born April 1, 1944 in Oceana, WV, a
son of the late McGarvey “Garvey” and Nell Kennedy Blankenship. He was a member of the UMWA and
after 40 plus years as a coal miner he retired from Peabody’s Harris Coal Mine. Steve loved spending
time with his many family and friends, camping, fishing and hunting. His son Richard Lee Blankenship also
preceded him in death. Those mourning his leaving include his wife Onia Gibson; five loving children

Gregory Alan “Sharky” Osborne, 45, of Cyclone, WV, passed away on Saturday June 26, 2010 at his
home. He was born August 2, 1964, in Man, WV, a son of the late Beecher Harold Osborne and Ethel
DeLong Osborne Workman of Cyclone, WV. He was a 1983 graduate of Oceana High School, a member
of the NRA and Cyclone Trophy Club and a certified EMT. He had worked for K & K Bit for several years
and very much enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his father Beecher Harold
Osborne and his step-father Junior Rush Workman. Survivors include his loving mother Ethel Workman of
Cyclone, WV; a sister Cyndi Hurley and husband Bill of Cyclone, WV; two brothers Bob Osborne and wife

of CAMC, Charleston, WV.  He was born May 13, 1940 in Clay County, WV, a son of the late Alva Paris
and Clara McKinney Adkins. He was a retired equipment operator. In addition to his parents he was
preceded in death by a sister Fonda Woods; four brothers Tommy, Alonzo, Ray and James Adkins.

Gibson of Glover, WV and the late James Estel Gibson. Glenn was a US Army veteran and a retired
UMWA coal miner. Survivors include his loving wife Patsy Irene Lester Gibson; a daughter Angela Dawn

Hospital in St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, WV, surrounded by members of her loving family. She was
born December 17, 1917 in Freeburn, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Elijah and Sallie May Saunders.  
Mildred was a member of the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church, a homemaker, devoted mother and an
accomplished seamstress.  Her husband Noah Lee Justice, Sr. also preceded her in death along with a
son Noah L. Justice, Jr., a daughter Betty Holloway, and eleven brothers and sisters.  Survivors include
three loving sons Richard Justice and wife Carol of Oceana, WV, Steve Justice and wife Sue of Huber
Heights, Ohio and Dan Justice and wife Neria of Oceana, WV; a brother Eugene Saunders and wife

Robert Carroll “Bob” Cook, 79, of Oceana, WV passed away on Monday April 25, 2010 in Ansted
Center Nursing Home. He was born January 3, 1931 in Oceana, WV, a son of the late Emory and Ruth
Workman Cook. He was a former ruff neck on oil riggs in Texas and a US Air Force Veteran. He was
also preceded in death by his wife Lucille Cook; two sisters Mary Louise Collins of Round Rock, TX and

Harry Lee “Big Paw” Amburgey, 80, of Oceana, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday April
24, 2010 at the Beckley Veterans Administration Medical Center. Harry was born July 30, 1929 in
Oceana, WV, a son of the late Jeff and Annie Laura Griffith Amburgey. Harry was of the Baptist faith and a
former member of the Oceana Volunteer Fire Department. He was a US Army Veteran, a member of the
Disabled American Veterans. Harry worked on track maintenance for the Virginian, N & W and Norfolk
Southern Railways. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his
parents he was preceded in death by his wife Norma Jean Brinkley Amburgey; a daughter Lisa
Amburgey; four brothers James, Jim, Roy and Posey Amburgey and four sisters Letha Gregory, Garnett
Faulkner, Dimple Maynor and Mary Ellen Amburgey. Survivors include a son Doyle Amburgey and

Golden Harvest Nursing Home, Welch, WV.  Dee was born December 29, 1925 in Capels, WV, a son of
the late Dee Morgan, Sr. and Florence Phillips Morgan. He was a member of the Clear Fork Independent
Church of God. Dee worked for the Virginian, N & W and Norfolk Southern Railways in Baileysville, WV
as an assistant track maintenance foreman for 43 years. He loved going to church and all of his church
family. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Thomas J. Morgan and Herbert Morgan; three
sisters Catherine Jenkins, Gladys Lemaster and Louise Dameron.  Survivors include his loving wife of 64

Buel Lee “RED” Harold, 66, of Brenton, WV departed this life on April 14, 2010 of an apparent heart
attack. He was born in Newton, WV, on May 25, 1943 to the late Darrell B. and Mary “Bunny” Lynch
Harold. 1961 grad of Baileysville High School, and then moved to the Washington DC area, and worked
as a plumber in the construction business. In 1963 he married Phyllis Short and had two daughters.  He
later moved back to WV and worked in the coal mining industry as a tipple operator/forman. He is
preceded in death by his father Darrell B. Harold.  He was of the Christian faith and had last attended the
Independent Trinity Pentecostal Church, Mullensville, WV. Survivors include mother Mary “Bunny” Harold
with whom he resided; two loving daughters Angela and husband Chris Mahew of Pineville, WV and
Christy and husband Billy Fox of Oceana, WV; four grandchildren Trey Hunt, Megan, Will and Philip Fox.

late Mike and Mary Elsie Nelson Goodman. James had resided in Baltimore for the past 50 years. His
earlier years were spent in Asco, McDowell County, West Virginia. He was of the Baptist faith and a
veteran, having served in the US Army. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Benny and Ralph

Lacy Bishop, Jr., 64, of Baileysville, WV, became safe in the arms of Jesus at 1:30 AM on Thursday
March 18, 2010 at the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born June 13, 1945 in Steeles,
WV a son of the late Lacy Bishop, Sr. and his mommy Martha Elizabeth Bailey Bishop. He was a retired
coal miner with 27 years of service and a member of the UMWA. Lacy was a member of the Brenton
Baptist Church having served as a deacon for 28 years. He loved leading the singing of gospel hymns,
coon hunting and witnessing for Jesus. He was also preceded in death by three brothers Alex “Pedro”
Cline and infants Okey and Roy Rondall Bishop; two sisters Lacine Lester, Georgia Belcher and his

Stores for many years and worked in the coal mines for the last eighteen years before retirement. He is

Sherwood Ernest Perry, 82, of Sun Hill, W.Va., passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010, in
Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
He was born June 1, 1927, in Davin, W.Va., a son of the late Marshall Hayes Perry and Inez Christian
Perry. As a young man, he proudly served in the U.S. Army and Air Force for six years; after his release
he became a construction worker and worked until 1986 when he retired. He loved gardening, fishing and
hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Orville Harold Perry and
Walter Levon Perry. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Edra Morgan Perry of Sun
Hill, W.Va.; his daughter Dianna Hall of Sun Hill, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Sgt. Nathan Hall of Fort Drum,
N.Y., Lauren Hall of Huntington, W.Va., Lucas and Amber Minor both of Sun Hill, W.Va.; four

was born February 3, 1926 in Mallory, WV, a daughter of the late Walter and Zealy Bailey Morgan. Pete
was a loving mother and grandmother, a homemaker and a member of the Apostolic House of Faith. Her
loving husband of 52 years, Azil Kenneda, also preceded her in death, along with a sister Elvira “Babe”
Toler, a brother AR Morgan and a sister in law Fredona Morgan. Left to cherish her memory are eight

Robert Samuel McGuire, 84, of Jesse, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday
February 6, 2010 in Raleigh General Hospital. He was born April 29, 1925 in Starratt, WV,
a son of the late Walter and Lizzie Barnette McGuire.  He was a United States Army
Veteran, a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA. He was the last surviving member of
his immediate family and was also preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. He
attended the Turkey Ridge Baptist Church and Rhema Ministries. He enjoyed hunting,
riding his four wheeler and giving out religious tracts. Survivors include his loving wife of 61

Mabel June Hughes, 87, of Montgomery, Alabama, formerly of Clear Fork, WV passed away on Sunday
evening January 10, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Bonnie Hughes Ely. Mabel was born June 15,
1922 in Simon, WV, a daughter of the late George and Laune Toler Brinegar. Mabel lived in the
community of Clear Fork, West Virginia and was a member of the Sun Hill Methodist Church. She lived in
Clear Fork until 2005, at which time she moved to Montgomery, Alabama to be closer to her daughter,
grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving
husband Stacy Hughes and a sister Edith Walls. Always the loving and devoted Wife, Mother,
Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend, Mabel always had a smile and a kind word for all. Her loving
good nature will be missed by all who came in contact with her.  She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie

Douglas Rondy “Doug” Aliff, 72, of Fanrock, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ, and to be reunited with his loving wife of 47 years, Susie Aliff, whom he missed dearly, on Thursday
November 19, 2009 at the Bower’s Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born on
September 27, 1937 at Fanrock, WV, a son of the late Ulbert and June Morgan Aliff. He was a retired coal
miner of 25 years from Keppler National Mines and a member of the UMWA Local 1599. Doug was of the
Baptist faith and had been a Christian for many years. He enjoyed going to church, reading his Bible and
serving the Lord, he also loved the outdoors, camping at Bluestone, fishing, gathering wood, spending
time with his family, especially his eight grandkids. In addition to his parents Doug was also preceded in
death by his loving wife Brenda “Susie” Aliff; a sister Joann Aliff and his in-laws Glen and Leola Williams.
Those left to cherish his memory are his four sons, Mark Aliff, Marvin Aliff and wife Angie, Donald Aliff and
wife Becky, and Eddie Aliff and wife Mandy all of Fanrock; six brothers and sisters Edna Thomas of

retired coal miner having worked 25 years at Eastern Associated Coal’s Kopperston # 2

loving mother and wife. A brother Samuel Matthew Blankenship also preceded her in death.

After a courageous battle, Roger Lee Parsons, Sr., 57, of Lynco, WV, went home to be
with the Lord, on Monday November 2, 2009 at his home.  He was born April 2, 1952 in
Lynco, WV a son of Rita Bolen Parsons and the late Virgil Lee Parsons. Roger was a
member, Trustee and Sunday School Superintendent of Joseph Baptist Church and the
Recording Secretary of UMWA Local 7604. He was a member of The Heirs of Grace
Gospel Quartet.  His sister Ruby Louise Hall Parsons and sister-in-law Kay Parsons also
preceded him in death along with his father. While he was an avid NASCAR and Pittsburg
Steelers fan, his main goal in life was to tell the good news of God.  Survivors also include

was a roofing contractor for 20 years and had a small roofing business. He was a loving

WV. He loved Bluegrass Music and sitting on his front porch watching the world go by as he smoked his
corncob pipe. When he was younger he had a calling to preach for the Lord and also served time in the
Navy. Alf will be sadly missed by his family and friends. The family wishes to acknowledge with sincere

Lisa Lea Rose, 37, of Hanover, WV, passed away on Friday August 7, 2009 at her home.
Lisa was born January 21, 1972 at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, the daughter of
Charlotte Cline Rose and the late Elisha Rose. She was preceded in death by her
grandparents Howard and Evelyn Cline and Cleve and Ebbie Rose. Lisa graduated in 1990
from Baileysvillle High School and attended Southern West Virginia Community College.
She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially with Emilee. Lisa is survived
by her daughter Emilee Eve Rose; her mother Charlotte Rose and companion Charlie
Roark; and a brother Jeffery Rose. Lisa is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins
and many friends. Lisa never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone. She has left

Rev. Dennie Rice Browning, 68, of Jesse, WV went home to be with the Lord on
Wednesday August 5, 2009 at his home. He was born May 26, 1941 in Jesse, WV, a son
of the late Walter Lawrence and Maudie Marie Dameron Browning. Mr. Browning
graduated from Oceana High School in 1959 and later obtained a Divinity Degree from
Liberty University. He was a former logger and Ordained Missionary Baptist Minister
having served many years at Guyandotte Baptist Church. Along with his parents he was
preceded in death by siblings Luetta, Lettie, Orville, four infant sisters, and a grandson
Kenneth Ray Burgess, Jr. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years Sylvia “Roberta”
McMillon Browning; two daughters Sandra Burgess and husband Kenneth of Keyrock, WV

was raised in Horse Creek and was a disabled coal miner. Ed loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of the

Bryant and Hershel Bryant also preceded him in death along with a sister Francis Dillon. Left to grieve his

Angie Blankenship Rosenbaum, 69, of Oceana, WV went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving
family following a short illness. Angie was born on February 14, 1940 in Simon, WV, a daughter of the late Bert Joseph and Myrtle
Francis Kennedy Blankenship. Her husband Donald F. Rosenbaum also preceded her in death along with three sisters Ilene Kennedy,
Irene Cline and Rosalee Blankenship; four brothers Jerry, Robert, Roy and Jimmy Blankenship. Angie was an avid gardener, loved all
her animals and was a C.N.A.  She was a member of the Gloryland and the Forgiven Gospel singing groups which she loved

Donald Eugene Brian Hood, 26, made his home in Killeen, Texas for the past three years and was formerly of
Oceana, WV passed away on Saturday May 9, 2009 in Killeen of a sudden illness. He was a 2000 graduate of
Oceana High School, a US Army Veteran, having served in Korea and Iraq, and a member of the Killeen Seventh
Day Adventist Church. He was born July 17, 1982 in Beckley, WV a son of the late Donald Hood and Sherry Lusk
Hood of Oceana, WV. His paternal grandparents jack and Ruth Hood and maternal grandfather Frank J. Lusk also
preceded him in death. Survivors also include his wife Erica, two daughters Don`nasia and Anniyah, and a son
Maurice all of Killeen, Texas; a brother Trenton R. Hood of Huntington, WV; a sister Lenette A. Wood of Oceana,
WV; maternal grandmother Garnett O. Lusk of Oceana, WV; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral
services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday May 15, 2009 at the Full Gospel Tabernacle, Kopper City Bottom, WV, with
Pastor Ricky Proffitt officiating. Brian will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may gather
with the family from 6 – 9:00 PM on Thursday May 14, 2009 at the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV. E-mail
