Phillip Lee Workman, 48, of Cyclone, WV passed away on Wednesday November 27, 2013 at his home.  He was born August 31, 1965 in
Man, WV, a son of the late Worley Gordon and Velma Glee Lusk Workman. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother
David Gordon Workman. Survivors include a sister Brenda Maynor of Cyclone; a brother John Wayne Workman of Cyclone; and a host of

Mr. Charles Wayne “Charlie” Toney, 73, of Oceana, WV passed away on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at his home. He was born January
15, 1940 in Pax, WV, a son of the late Jesse Willard and Kathleen Kidd Toney. Charlie was a retired coal miner with thirty years of service at
Harris #1 Mine, a member of UMWA Local 1503. He spent seven years in service to our country in the military, first as a United States Marine
and then with the United States Air Force. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years Phyllis Barrs Toney; a brother Bill Toney and wife
Brenda of Norwalk, OH; two sisters Joan Dixon of Oceana and Kathy Thompson and husband David of Pineville; and a host of other loving
family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday December 6, 2013 at the
New Life Church, Jesse, WV with

Richard Allen “Ricky” Couch, 33, of Lynco, WV slipped away on Saturday December 14, 2013 from complications of Salmonella
poisoning in Raleigh General Hospital. He was born December 26, 1979 in Beckley, WV, a son of Charlie Allen and Mary Ann Matney
Couch.  Ricky was a 1999 graduate of Oceana High School and a coal truck driver. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charlie
and Sylvia Couch and Aaron and Francis Matney. Ricky was a loving husband, father and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew
him. He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years Julie Ann Lambert Couch; his parents Charlie and Mary Ann Couch of Lynco; two sons
Tyler Couch and Garrett Couch both of the home; a sister Kelly Hall and husband Mark of Spartanburg, SC; many special truck driving

James K. Bledsoe, 63, of North Spring, WV passed away on Friday December 13, 2013 in Logan Regional Medical Center. He was born
February 12, 1950 in Welch, WV, a son of the late Jasper and Ellen Hatfield Bledsoe. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by
two brother’s Melvin Bledsoe, and Kenneth Bledsoe; two sister’s Evelyn Lester, and Mable Lester. He is survived by a daughter Bridgette
(James) Bowers of Ragland; a son James A. (Shawanna) Bledsoe of North Spring; two sisters Barbara Lowe of Mt. Airy, NC, and Agnes
Perry of Hanover; a brother Douglas (Andrea) Bledsoe of Hanover, WV; four grandchildren Tyler Bledsoe, Conner Bledsoe, Cameron

David Earl Acord, 80, of Jesse, WV passed away on Sunday December 22, 2013 in Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born
March 13, 1933 in Glen Fork, WV, a son of the late Walter W. and Thelma Adkins Acord. David was a US Navy Veteran and a member of
Russell Missionary Baptist Church in Glen Fork. He was the former chief mechanic at Cook Ford Sales in Oceana, shop foreman at Eastern
Associated Coal Harris #1, and retired from Patriot Coal. He enjoyed playing his banjo with his sons and friends; and hunting and fishing. In
addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Roger Acord; a daughter-in-law Bonnie Marie Acord; and a granddaughter
MyLisa Sue Acord Graham. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years Dorothy Imogene Gunnoe Acord; five sons Richard Earl Acord of

be with Jesus on Tuesday December 24, 2013 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born October 6, 1960 in Man, WV, a son
of Norma Jean Keeney Wells of Lynco and the late Rev. Charles Winford Wells. Michael was a disabled coal miner and truck driver. He loved
his granddaughter Madison more than life itself and always spent as much time with her as he could. His hobbies included playing the guitar,
riding his Harley and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at McDonald’s in
Oceana. He will be missed by all who loved him. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by a brother Kim Dewayne Wells; his
poppaw who raised him Bill Keeney, Sr.; a special uncle Bill (Shaw) Keeney, Jr.; a special aunt Betty Ann Toler; a nephew Kelly Wells. Those

Vivian Irene Bellew Morgan, 88, of Fanrock, WV left to meet her heavenly father on Saturday January 4, 2014 from Wyoming Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center, New Richmond, WV. She was born March 24, 1925 in Denton, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Charles Washington
and Ethel Mae Elkins Bellew. For many years she lived and worked for RCA Corporation in Cincinnati, OH, she moved to Winston Salem, NC
where she worked until retirement for Forsythe Memorial Hospital. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to
her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James P. Morgan, two sisters and brothers-in-law Leona and Tommy Bailey and Ruby
and Morris L. Meadows; a brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Lorene Bellew; a half sister and brother-in-law Eula Mae and Ted Pennington
and a grandson Charles “Bubby” Adkins. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Winston Salem, NC where she
also served as secretary for many years. Survivors include a daughter Glenna Evelyn Adkins and her husband “Tink” of Fanrock, WV with
whom she lived with for three years until living at Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; two granddaughters Regina McNew and
husband Melvin of Pinnacle, NC and Tracey Walters and husband Willie of Fanrock, WV; four great grandchildren; a great great

was born October 27, 1935 in Elk Lick, WV, a son of the late Dotson “Dot” and Martha Toler Morgan. He was a retired Route Salesman for
Pepsi Cola and a US Air Force Veteran. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons David D. “Davey” Morgan, Jr. and
Darin Morgan and a grandson David Cory Morgan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Survivors include his loving wife

Zola Mae Robinson Toler, 79, of Tamcliff, WV passed away on Thursday January 23, 2014 at her home. She was born June 22, 1934 in
Logan County, WV a daughter of the late Cecil and Nancy Gibson Robinson. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a
precious son Fonnis Eugene Toler; two brothers Rev. Gordie Robinson, and Lee Robinson; and three sisters Melva Robinson Cline, Rosa
Dean, and Ruby Robinson Stevens.  Zola was a former owner of Toler’s Grocery, Toler’s TV Service, and Toler’s Water System in Slabtown.

Selena Renee Justice, 39, of Mohawk, WV took her flight to be with Jesus and the angels on Friday January 24, 2014 surrounded by her
family and friends, leaving out as her mother held her in her arms. She was born March 9, 1974 in Welch, WV. She was the daughter of Linda
and Robert “Poppy” Adams of Mohawk and Carter and Charlotte Justice of Pipestem. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Burl

Huntington, WV.  She was born March 21, 1928 in Clear Fork, WV, the oldest daughter of the late Mac Conrad and Lula Bailey Johnson.
Mildred was a homemaker, a member of the Ladies Aux. VFW 8364, Wyoming County EXT Homemakers, Oceana Band Boosters, member
of the Toneda Missionary Baptist Church, and the Missionary Women’s.  She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother,
and Aunt. With her gift of gab she never met a stranger. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years

Lawrence Thomas Evans, 67, of Crany, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at his home. He was born January 27, 1947 in
North Spring, WV, a son of the late William Marion and Tracy Mary Davis Evans. He was a 1964 graduate of Baileysville High School, a
United States Navy Veteran, and a 1970 graduate of the West Virginia University Institute of Technology. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by two brothers: William Ronald Evans and wife Fran and John Wesley Evans and wife Elaine; a sister Leatha Etta Peery
and husband John; and an infant sister. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who was known for his incredible work
ethic and quick sense of humor. He enjoyed relaxing and hunting with his brothers, extended family, and friends at his beloved cabin in Glady,
WV and more recently reconnecting with a dear friend from the Navy, Barry Roederer, on fishing trips. A special highlight of each year was
an annual picnic with high school friends from the Baileysville Class of 1964. Tom retired as a foreman for Peabody Coal Co. and fought a

Joseph Anderson “Joe” Harvey, 84, of Lynco, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at his home. He was born December
25, 1929 in Christian, WV, a son of the late William Calvin and Georgia Crabtree Harvey, Sr. He was a United States Navy Veteran and
attended Toneda Missionary Baptist Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include two daughters
Dianna Sheryl Rhoads and husband Dale of Ft. Worth, TX and her children Paige Goff of Kopperston, WV and Allison Goff of Ft. Worth, TX

member of the UMWA, and volunteered at the Beckley VAMC. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son Delbert Rollins;

Ruby Helen Linkous Fleenor, 87, of Kopperston, WV entered Heaven’s gates on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Raleigh General Hospital,
Beckley, WV. She was born February 20, 1927 in Cranes Nest, VA a daughter of the late Leonard and Minnie Johnson Linkous. In addition to
her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband Carl Edward Fleenor, Sr.; a sister Ethel “Toots” Hilman; and a brother Bob
Linkous. Ruby’s Kind and generous spirit made all around her feel special. She loved her family with all of her being, and her strength, grace,
and dignity will be remembered by all who knew her. Ruby was of the Christian faith, and she was an angel who God allowed to walk with us.
She was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Our hearts mourn her loss, but rejoice in knowing we will meet

Jason Harold Dillon, 37, of Kopperston, WV died suddenly Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at his home. He was born December 8, 1976 in
Beckley, WV, and was a lifelong resident of Kopperston, WV. Jason was most proud of his employment on an ambulance team during which
time he received National Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. Jason attended Delilah United Methodist Church and was a
member of the choir. In 2013, he took membership in the church and rededicated his life to the Lord. He had an incredibly sharp memory and
never forgot an occasion or date. He was very proud of family heritage and will be sadly missed by family and friends. Jason was preceded in
death by maternal grandparents, Lloyd E. Sr. and Inez Cook, paternal grandfather, Harold Z. Dillon , Father Samuel C. Dillon, and uncle, Jack
Bailey. Family members still living include his mother, Jeannette Cook Dillon, Brother, Samuel Clay Dillon, nephew Samuel Konnor Dillon,

Grant Bailey, 90, of Oceana, WV passed away Monday, March 31, 2014. Grant was born July 3, 1923 in Panther, WV, a son of the late
Flem and Lovini Roberts Bailey. He answered his country’s call during World War II, by joining the US Army and serving in the South Pacific.
After that he went to work in the coal mines until retirement. In addition to his parents his loving wife of 67 years Pearl Church Bailey. Those

James Edward Cook, 46, of Oceana, WV, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was
born November 6, 1967 in Man, WV a son of Eugene Herman Cook of Holly Hills and the late Juanita Farley Cook. He was a member of the
Brothers of the Wheel – Southland, and while he was growing up attended the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church. James loved NASCAR
Races, the Dallas Cowboys, trips to the Lugar Farm with Rick and Mark to hunt, and his job as a mine foreman. He was a big family man, had
a strong belief in God and helping others when they were in need. James loved going on motorcycle rides with his brother-in-law Tim Morgan.
He loved to fish and his favorite spot was Smith Mountain Lake. James was a 1986 graduate of Oceana High School, he loved football, he
was a member of the 1986 Second Team WV Class AA All State Football team, First Team All Coalfield, First Team All South and was
defensive MVP of the 1986 AT&T All Star Football Game. He also played basketball for Oceana High and they advanced to the 1986 WV
Class AA State Basketball Tournament. In addition to his mother he is preceded in death by a sister Karen Curley; a brother Jeff Cook; and a
nephew Taylor Braxton Cook. Survivors include his loving wife, soul mate, and best friend of 20 years Anita Yvonne Morgan Cook; his father

James Dennie “Chico” Osborne, 54, of Oceana, WV, passed away on Saturday April 26, 2014 at his home of natural causes. He was

quiet, and a good hearted man who had made it right with God and is awaiting his loved ones in heaven. He was an Eagle Scout with the Boy
Scouts of America, a disabled coal miner with 20 years in various mines. He was a 1977 graduate of Oceana High School, and a member of

Teresa Lynn Ford, 38 of Matoaka, formerly of Brier Creek, WV, passed away.  She was born December 25, 1974, a daughter of Vera
Potter of Helen and the late Buddy Ford.  Teresa was a 1993 graduate of Baileysville High School. In addition to her father she was preceded
in death by her grandparents Lewis and Inez Ford and Ott and Margaret Stafford; a brother Basil Shields; and a special aunt Dorothy Clay.

Minnis Osborne, 73, of Cyclone, WV departed this life on Monday, May 12, 2014 at his home. He was born July 17, 1940 in Lorado, WV a
son of the late Wavy Osborne Daniels. Minnis was a member of the Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church. He was the Sunday School
Superintendant for 40 ½ years, and Sunday School Teacher for 43 years. Minnis worked for Eastern Associated Coal Corp. at Kopperston,
WV for 26 years and was a member of Local Union #7604. Minnis enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and hunting, but his main priority was his
church and family. In addition to his mother he is preceded in death by his grandparents Landy and Lessie Osborne Bostic, and Charlie
Bostic who raised him from birth; his daughter Betsy Osborne Garvey (his Ten-Ten); a brother Vester Osborne; two sisters Letha Webb and
Cindy Price. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years Charlotte Lusk Osborne; two sons Dean and wife Eva, and Rex

James Edward Dunn, 92, of Clear Fork, WV, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014. Mr. Dunn was born September 13, 1921, in Capels,
WV, son of the late Anna (Barnett) and David Dunn. Mr. Dunn worked as a Tipple Engineer at the New River & Pocahontas Coal Co. in
Capels, WV, when he enlisted in the United States Army on September 12, 1942, and was assigned to the 697th Engineer Petroleum
Distribution Co. on April 28, 1943, He was mobilized for service outside the United States, destined for the European African Theater. He
served with honor in Patton’s Army and in Foggia–Naples, Southern France, Rome-Arno, Central Europe, and the Rhineland. He was a
marksman. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead in addition to
the Good Conduct Medal. Demobilized on December 15, 1944, he returned to the coal mine in Lynco, WV, where he worked until a near-fatal
accident sent him to the hospital for a year, after which he was forced to retire. Mr. Dunn became a successful farmer who enjoyed trout
fishing, gardening, horse shoes, softball, country music, and hummingbirds. He was an avid wrestling fan. Mr. Dunn is survived by his long-
time companion, Norma Jean Wells; daughter Linda (John) McWebb of Tucson, AZ, and step-daughter Elizabeth (Bette) Adams of
Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren James, John, Elizabeth, Jocelyn and Kimberly; 10 great grandchildren; nephews Ray and Dewayne
Belcher; sister Grace Cook; brothers Tom and Billy; extended family members and many friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carrie
Belcher, who passed away in 1997; sisters Lena Holbrook, Juanita Belcher,  and Sylvia Fisher; brothers Burl, Bill and Jerry. The family of

as manager for many years at the Super America in Pineville. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son Mark Anthony

Rema Sue Walls Roach, 65, of Oceana, WV, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday June 24, 2014 in Charleston Area Medical Center,
Charleston, WV. She was born September 29, 1948 in Cyclone, WV a daughter of the late William Lee and Wealtha Jane Toler Walls. Rema
was a member of the Lacoma Baptist Church and a 1966 graduate of Oceana High School. She was a registered nurse having worked at the
Oceana Medical Center, OH-9 Home Health and Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. In addition to her parents, Rema was preceded in
death by her paternal grandparents Samuel and Ida Cook Walls; maternal grandparents George and Rosie Perry Toler; two brothers Norman
Gene Walls and Billy Lee Walls; and a sister Hazel Faye Walls Adkins. She enjoyed taking care of her pets and spending time with her five
grandchildren. Those left to cherish Rema’s memory include her loving husband of 41 years John Franklin Roach; her two daughters Robin
Eileen Parsons and husband Isaac of Crab Orchard and Amanda Renee Lane and husband Timothy of Lewisburg; five grandchildren John

United States Marine Vietnam Veteran, he was an ordained minister at the Clear Fork Independent Church of God, and loved the Lord with all
his heart. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers Jerry Hedrick and Roger Hedrick; two sisters Norma Jean Mounts,

Sylvia Harriett Smith, 96, of McGraws, WV joined our Lord in heaven from the home of her son, Larry and daughter-in-law Pat on Saturday

Webb and Quilly Lee Pettry. Sylvia worked and retired from Twin Falls State Park, where she held the head housekeeper position for 25
years. She loved bingo and always wore a smile, but is best remembered for loving her family including those by blood and those made of the

Vonnie Jean Curry, 77, of Oceana, WV formerly of Cyclone was welcomed into Heaven on Friday July 18, 2014 in McDowell Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center, Gary, WV. She was born March 29, 1937 in Mallory, WV, a daughter of the late David and Goldie Haynes and wife of
the late Grathel Curry. Vonnie was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved singing and sharing her faith with
others. Although dementia tried to steal her memory, it could not steal her love for The Lord. She remembered every word to the gospel songs
she sang until the very end and could finish scriptures discussed during conversations. In addition to her loving husband and parents she is
preceded in death her sisters Lona Bell Hall of Ocala, FL, Virginia Allen of Man, Joann Terry of Grandview, and Velma Stines of Morgantown;
her brothers Avery Haynes of Davin, and James Haynes of Oceana; great granddaughter Madison McNeely of Taplin. Survivors include her

Johnny Earl Cook, 62, of Campus, WV, passed away on Tuesday July 29, 2014 at his home. He was born February 23, 1952 in Cyclone,
WV a son of the late Rush and Alma Paynter Cook. He was a retired coal miner having last worked at Harris Mine in Boone County, was a
member of the UMWA Local 1503 and a member of the Campus Church of God and a 1970 graduate of Oceana High School. In addition to
his parents he was preceded in death by his loving daughter Kristi Marie Cook, three brothers Acie, Jimmy and Paul Cook, two infant brothers
and an infant sister. Johnny was an assistant coach to his nephew Coach Jamie Lusk for the Westside High School Girls Basketball team
since the school opened. He was instrumental in helping them to two WV State AA Championships and a state Runner-up in the last three

24, 1968 in McDowell County, WV, a daughter of the late Howard Edward and Dora Bennett Sexton. In addition to her parents she is
preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Ryder. Those left to cherish her memories are her son Roger Lee Steele, II; two brothers Wayne Ryder,
and Jesse and Karen Ryder all of Indianapolis; her best friends Heather Payne of Avondale, and JoAnn Browning of Litwar; and a host of

Newson Dwaine Reed, 52, of Hanover, WV went to rest high on the mountain on Saturday August 30, 2014 in Bushnell, FL. He was born
July 11, 1962 in Man, WV, a son of Berlin Reed of Hanover and Gwendolyn Bailey Smith of Lakeland, FL.  He is preceded in death by his
grandparents Newson and Nellie Bailey, and Bert and Geneva Reed; and father-in-law Simon Bailey. Survivors include his loving wife of 11
years Michelle Lea England Reed of Hanover; four daughters Sarah Reed, Cathryn Perdue, Bridgett Hammack, and Julia Sansom; a son
Daniel Sansom; step mother Linda Reed; step dad Delbert Smith; three sisters Glenna Renee Wood, Melody Smith, and Patty Smith; two

John Franklin Mullins, 81, of Turkey Creek, WV, passed away on September 3, 2014 at his home. He was born June 19, 1933 in Clay
County, WV, a son of the late George Washington and Vernie Ramsey Mullins. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of
41 years Lettie Jean Browning Mullins; a daughter Barbara Stewart; and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include three daughters
Darlene Mullins and Dina Shores all of Skin Fork, and Mary Tilley of McGraws; three sons Billy Mullins of Glen Fork, George "Frankie" Mullins

following a short illness. She was born August 21, 1935 in Simon, WV, a daughter of the late Virgil and Ora Chambers Goodman. In addition
to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother David Goodman. Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years Robert E. Repass of
Oceana; two sons Frankie Repass of Oceana, and Robert Lee and Tammy Repass of Oceana; a daughter Louise and Dennie Cook of
Oceana; five grandchildren Robert Lee Repass, Jr., Rebecca Repass, Jessica Cook, Misty Coleman and Jeanese Green; nine great
grandchildren Seraphina Repass, Tamara Childers, Jace Repass, Hendrix Cook, Bentlee Cook, Cheyenne Coleman, Jacob Coleman, Nick

children Deadra, Wendy, Caressa, Ashley, Bryan II, Amy, and Anastacia of Morgantown, Allie Mae Blankenship and her children Jennifer,
and Bruce of Oceana, and Rosinna Toler and her children Kimberly and Jessie of Lester; three sisters Mary Cecil of Surveyor, Vonnie Mae

Patricia Ann Kennedy Blackburn, 54, of Clear Fork, WV, went home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2014 in Raleigh General
Hospital, Beckley, WV. She was born January 2, 1960 in Simon, WV, a daughter of the late Martha Blankenship. Patricia was born and raised
in Simon, WV where she met the love of her life Edward Blackburn. She attended church at the Pentecostal House of Prayer in Lynco, WV.
Her most cherished moments were with her grandchildren and family. Her passions were working in her garden and tending her flowers.
Those waiting to welcome her home with open arms are her mother Martha Blankenship; her brothers Rocky and Billy Kennedy; and sisters

Rosetta Mae "Rose" Cohenour New Proffitt, 82, of Oceana, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday September 12, 2014 in
Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV. She was born February 22, 1932 in Blue Sulphur Springs the daughter of the late Cass Andrew
and Elsie Bryant Cohenour. Rose was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal House of Prayer. She will be sadly missed by
countless family and friends. In addition to her parents Rose is preceded in death by her first husband Joda Pat New, five sisters, five
brothers, a great great grandchild, a step granddaughter, son-in-law and three step great grandsons. Those remaining to love and cherish
the memory of Rose and to mourn her passing include her loving husband of 27 years Firg Proffitt; her seven children Jimmie (Shirley) New,

Versie J. Bailey Brown, 86, of Cyclone, WV passed away September 11, 2014 in Trinity Nursing Home, Logan, WV. She was born August
4, 1928 in Cyclone, WV, a daughter of the late John Richard and Emma Toler Bailey. Versie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister
and aunt and had spent her life dedicated to caring for her family. She very much enjoyed being a homemaker. She was very much loved and
admired by all who knew her and was a long time member of Lacoma Baptist Church of Cyclone. In addition to her parents she is preceded in
death by her husband James K. "Ken" Brown; a son Steven "Steve" Brown: a grandson J.L. Perry; a son -in-law Jack Perry; several brothers
and a sister. She will be sadly and greatly missed by all. She is survived by a daughter Charlotte Sue Stewart of Gary; a granddaughter  
Amee and Drew Young; two great granddaughters Andria and Addison "Addi B" all of Anthem, AZ; a sister Violet Miller; a special friend and

by his wife Brenda Rife McMillion, three brothers Elmer P. McMillion, Donald E. McMillion and Emory McMillion, a sister Betty J. McMillion
