Douglas Franklin Walker, Sr. entered glory on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV, leaving behind a legacy rooted deeply in love and grace of Jesus Christ. He was born on June 22, 1943 in Baileysville, WV a son of the late Leander and Georgia Katherine Collins Walker. He was a devout member of Joseph Baptist Church. He loved his church and his church family. He always bragged about his Pastor William Cook. Douglas left a mark in this world that burned in the hearts of those who knew him. Douglas served his country in the United States Army. He also worked many years as an electrician in the coal mines. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the love of his life Myrna “Tiny” Acord Walker, one son Douglas Walker, Jr., two brothers Jess and Ernie Walker, and a sister Christine Hensley. Those left to cherish his memories include his sons Christopher Walker, Sr. (Melissa), and C. J. Walker (Chelsea); three grandchildren Amanda Walker, Douglas Leander Walker (Sabrina), and Candi Daugherty (Matthew), his great grandchildren Sarina Walker, Alyssa Walker, Alexander Walker, Matthew Daugherty, Kizzy Daugherty, Julian Daugherty, Adalyn Daugherty, Lindsey Walker, and Bentley Walker; a sister Darlene Cooke, a very Special first cousin Dee Dee Shelton; a daughter-in-law Ruth Walker; his girlfriend Penny Hood; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends. What a beautiful life he lived. The people he loved and the people who got to love him. His journey may have ended, but his words of wisdom and love never will. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, July 31st at the Joseph Baptist Church, Lynco, WV with Pastor William Cook officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Military rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may gather with the family from 10:00 am until time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
