Obituary

Pastor Elzie Roscoe Blankenship, 91, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026, peacefully at his home in Iaeger, WV, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born February 11, 1935 to the late Johnny and Lula Paynter Blankenship. He lived and loved the occupation of being a proud coal miner, where he retired from Royalty Smokeless Coal Company of Premier, WV. He was a true believer of God and the proud pastor of the Church of Zion of Ikes Fork, WV. He is preceded in death by a son-in-law Richard Waddell of Virginia, two brothers Ballard Blankenship of Tennessee and Clearance Blankenship of Hanover and a sister Edith Justice of Welch. He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Rachel Newcomb Blankenship of Hanover; five sisters Rachel (Teddy) Morgan of Hanover, Virgie (Mack) Profitt of Hanover, Phyliss (Gary) Justice of Justice, Carol Rose of Princeton and Loretta Riffe of North Carolina; To this union were born five children, the late Roscoe Blankenship, Daphne Waddell of Virginia, Gail (Melvin) Cline of Ikes Fork, Eugene (Sherry) Blankenship of Hanover and Gloria Addair of Avondale. Also surviving him are his grandchildren including Aaron Blankenship of Hanover, Adam (Kelli) Cline of Pennsylvania, Ranson (Tiffany) Addair of Avondale, Emilee (Josh) Riffe of Ikes Fork, Ryan (Katrina) Blankenship of Pineville, Patti Blankenship of Huntington, and Ashley Blankenship of Oceana; and his great grandchildren, Jaellan, Jase and Braxton Blankenship, Turner and Tinley Addair, Lainey Cline and Raegan Riffe; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 on Wednesday, September 16th, 2026 at the Church of Zion at Ikes Fork, WV, with Bro. David Speery, Bro. Leroy Lester and Bro Butch White officiating. Friends may gather with the family after 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 15. 2026 at the church. Burial will follow the funeral on Wednesday at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Pallbearers will be his loving grandchildren and nephews. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV
