Obituary

Robert “Bob” Gene Rollins, 82, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026. Born on August 24, 1943, in Wyoming County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Roy and Dollie (Bailey) Rollins. Bob was a 1962 graduate of Oceana High School. He went on to further his education at the Wyoming County Vocational School, where he mastered machine shop, welding, and electricity. On March 6, 1965, he married the love of his life, Donna (Lowe) Rollins. Together, they built a loving family over nearly six decades and raised four daughters: Barbara, Pamela, Bobby, and Dollie. Bob worked in the Kopperston, West Virginia coal mine as a machinist, dedicating his life to providing for his family. Bob found his greatest joy in the mountains, rivers, and forests of his beloved West Virginia. Long before he purchased his cherished home along the Greenbrier River, family summers were spent camping across southern West Virginia along the New River, Greenbrier River, Indian Creek, and countless other treasured spots. Those days were filled with fishing, lazy afternoons floating downstream, campfires, and evenings spent catching fireflies—memories that remain deeply cherished by his family. Family road trips were another favorite tradition, and no journey seemed complete without a stop at McDonald’s along the way. In earlier years, Bob’s sweet tooth was already well known within the family. He often surprised his children with treats tucked into his lunchbox, and many evenings ended with a trip to Cathy Lou’s for an ice cream cone—simple traditions that became lasting childhood memories. His Greenbrier River property eventually became his sanctuary—a place where he found peace in fishing, relaxing, and gathering with family and friends. He spent countless hours wandering the hills in search of mushrooms and ginseng and never lost his appreciation for the simple beauty of the outdoors. Bob loved classic cars and was an avid coin collector and train enthusiast who especially enjoyed visiting the Cass Scenic Railroad whenever he could. Bob lived life on his own terms and never lost his sense of adventure. At age 82, he fulfilled a final bucket list item to feel the ocean sand beneath his feet once more and spend time fishing at the coast. Traveling independently to Florida, he stayed with Steve and Carol Dobos, where he enjoyed days at the beach and several fishing outings—an experience that reflected both his independence and his enduring love of the outdoors. Bob was blessed with many lifelong friendships, including special friends Joe and Rebecca Dobos and Steve and Carol Dobos, whose companionship meant so much to him over the years. He also leaves behind many dear relatives, neighbors, and friends throughout the Oceana area and southern West Virginia. In addition to his beloved wife, Donna, and his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his sister, Freda; his brother, Charles; his brother-in-law, Bill Johnson; and his sister-in-law, Donna Rollins. Bob’s legacy lives on through his loving family, including his daughters: Barbara Kay (Rollins) Akers and her husband, John Akers; Pamela Sue Rollins and her longtime companion, Rusty Rachel; Bobby Gail (Rollins) van Doornewaard and her husband, Erik van Doornewaard; and Dollie Lynn (Rollins) Farrow and her husband, Mike Farrow. He was also a proud grandfather to Cassandra Baldwin and her husband, Bradd; Kayla Fulk and her longtime companion, Zac Roberts; Robert Fulk and his fiancée, Sarah Delisle; Niklas van Doornewaard and his wife, Abby; and Trygg van Doornewaard. His family continued to grow with the addition of four cherished great-grandchildren: Breanna Baldwin, Adah Baldwin, Julian Baldwin, and Niklas van Doornewaard, Jr. Bob will be remembered for his devotion to family, his strong work ethic, and his deep appreciation for the outdoors. He never outgrew his sweet tooth and was always happy to make room for dessert. One of his family’s favorite recent memories is a visit to Golden Corral, where he enjoyed two plates of desserts alongside a salad—a moment that perfectly captured his spirit and priorities. Whether fishing a quiet riverbank, riding the rails at Cass, exploring the hills, or sharing big fish stories around a campfire, Bob embraced life’s simple joys fully and without hesitation. Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of the family he and Donna built together, spanning four generations. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will continue to be shared for generations to come. A service to honor and celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, West Virginia. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, West Virginia. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 11:00 a.m. to visit with the family and share memories prior to the service. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, West Virginia.
