Stephen Leo Spears, 73, of Matheny, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born on January 11, 1953 in Lilly Dale, WV a son of the late Leo and Monnie Kinser Spears. Stephen served in the United States Army National Guard. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Brian Spears, daughter Jessica Spears, a baby born sleeping, a son Mickey Crouse, and a granddaughter Michelle Janssen. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Jane Spears of Matheny WV, daughters Sebrena Spears of Martinsville VA, and Kim Lafferty of Bassett, VA, his grandchildren Adrian Spears and wife Hannah of Ridgeway VA, Destiny Spears of Martinsville VA, Landon Moore of Bassett VA, Myteonna Moore of Martinsville VA, Christopher Nutter of Oceana, Brandi Lamb and husband Allen of Oceana, Michael Janssen of Premont TX, and Zianne Janssen of Runge, TX, step daughter Briana Manes of Johnson City, TX, step son Andy Janssen of Premont, TX, his precious great grandchildren Da'Kari Giles of Martinsville, VA, Bentley Spears, Audree Spears, Mason Mize, and Madison Ashley all of Ridgeway VA, Angel Rodriguez and Elijah Rodriguez of Runge, TX, Hunter Janssen and Kasey Janssen both of Alice TX, and Asher Manes and Hannah Manes both of Johnson City TX, and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Friday, May 8, 2026 at the Turkey Ridge Baptist Church, Oceana, WV with Pastor Johnny Jones officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 11 am until time of service on Friday at the church. The Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Pall bearers will be family and friends. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.
