Yvonne Shumate Clay, 89, of Mullens, WV passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Wyoming Healthcare Center, New Richmond, WV. She was born on April 7, 1937 in Saulsville, WV a daughter of the late Amos Jonce and Helen Pendry Shumate. She took great pride in serving God, being a homemaker and caregiver. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband Garland Clay; a daughter Connie Alice Ramsey; a son Gene Parks; a grandson Adam Clay, and son-in-law Gene Parks. Those left to cherish her memories include three daughters Kathy Woods and husband Fred of Beckley, Elaine Parks of Mullens, and Phyllis Canada and husband Otis of Ostego; two sons Earl Clay of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Dean Clay and wife Michelle of Dandridge, TN; grandchildren Ginger Michael and husband Billy, Tanya Dunn and husband Larry, Billie Riddle and companion Chris Moore, Jason Clay, Dawn Shrewsbury and husband Neil, Jamie Lee Clay, Darrell Canada, Kara Canada-Smith and husband Jordan, Christy Lafferty and husband Mark, Curtis Canada and wife Paula, Matthew Clay and wife Tayla, Brett Clay and wife Taylor, and Alicia Clay; great grandchildren Halie Grogg, Levi Michael, Madison Dunn, Luke Dunn, Zachary Riddle, Isabella Riddle, Leah Clay, Jacoby Clay, Morgan Wrenn, Calley Clay, Easton Mullins, Brennan Mullins, Grim Whitt IV, Jillian Shrewsbury, Breanna Brown, Cecil Shrewsbury, Tyler Shrewsbury, Rhetti Cook, Baylen Harvey, Mila Monk, Kanan Canada, Kayla Roar, Coben Canada, Carlie Canada, Andrea Lafferty, and Lauren Dart; great great grandchildren Dilyn Clay, Nolan Clay, Kash Dunn, Kaiden Roar, Luca Roar, and Bowen Canada; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, July 9th at the Sweet Home Freewill Baptist Church, Maben, WV with Pastor Justin Farley officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Clay Family Cemetery, Saulsville, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 1:00 pm until time of service on Thursday at the church. Pallbearers will be Zachary Riddle, Luke Dunn, Levi Michael, Matthew Clay, Luke Edwards, and Dennis Edwards, Jr. Special thanks to Otis Canada, Brenda Pennington and many others who assisted Mom through her journey. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.
